but there's also an observable memory loss in people who wake up from N1 sleep. the science on that is inconclusive, but one hypothesis is that there's memory processing occuring during N1 sleep, and if you wake up, you're effectively aborting that process, hence memory loss!

basically, N1 sleep engages with a brain network involved with spontaneous thinking called the default mode network, and there's a noticeable increase in one's creative insight after waking up from N1 sleep.

so that stage of sleep onset is called the NREM sleep stage 1 (N1 sleep), and there's an unfortunate lack of research on it, but I did find some studies done on how N1 sleep affects your memory and creativity!

that korean caption is actually more dramatic than the translation makes it out to be; the ㄹ쏘냐 part at the end is an archaic phrase that you only really see in old literary works
