Hi! I have an important update.

I have to finally say some truths about why my online presence has been different lately. If it matters to ya, I'd appreciate it if you could find time to read!

Hey all, my living situation will very rapidly change in ~Dec-2025/Jan-2026. For this reason, I'm doing a clearance of all items in my shop from now till the end of November.

Please use code STRUGGLEBUS for 50% off all items, or use this link: ko-fi.com/hikatamika/l...

Assorted items from my shop. Stickers, prints, zines.

Yay!! I'm glad it got to y'all safely! I hope you like the note I wrote!

This whole time I was like "well, I finished this drawing, now I got to post it". About like… every drawing. But nah…

Drawings can be iterative steps on the path to nailing a vibe.
hikatamika.com
Also, the same way the methods recommend cultivating thoughts and letting them marinate and connect to other thoughts until they become ripe,

I feel the same way about drawing now, like… drawing is the pursuit of a mental image. And I can rework or even redraw an image iteratively until I nail it.

#DigitalGardening #Zettelkasten #PKM solved my compulsive posting itch.
But unlike the dweebs (/affectionate) that publish theirs for the world to see/engage with, I like to keep mine private.

Also, yet another idea that'd benefit like, creatives and normies that is very geeked up in most of its explanations and thus gets lost on a lot of people.

The "Digital Gardening"-leaning explanations tend to be a bit more friendly. The Zettelkasten and PKM ones take themselves too seriously.

When I used to, habitually, make my thoughts-in-progress social media posts, stray people were mean about them. So, the idea of a public, browsable digital garden does not appeal to me. Also I'm truer to my thoughts when I'm not writing for an audience.

Anger is lowkey right. Right before I took my detox, I feel like I kinda snapped. Like I raged at this internal symbol of like, the "Digital Dream" a-la The American Dream.

Certainly some sort of anger. 💭
hikatamika.com
Any smallweb people that use it, be careful!! (I used it for my site buttons…)

Does anyone know another image host I can use?

When I took my initial social media detox I kinda had a feeling that *I* was the weird one for burning out… andddd I still feel that way.

Social media still makes me feel like a bad artist. It did when I was a Twitter 300-follower Andy. Then I got distracted by the newness of BlueSky and now I'm a 7.5k Andy and I'm still burnout with feelings of failure.

With BSky I think about… feeling like a Ko-Fi failure. A lot. Re:promo-posts. On my rinky dinky stinky website I just forget I put the Ko-Fi widget there in the first place.

Wounds inform my biases but Hika Tamika Dot Com really is A Hole Made Just For Me.
hikatamika.com
Like with BSky I *unhides engagement numbers*

post something of actual importance/value and 0.5%-1% of my following sees and engages if I'm lucky.

My rinky dink website… hit counter just goes up and I strategically have no avenues through which you can press Dopamine Button™ for an art piece

So it has me like "is it the virality, or the *idea* that anyone can go viral?" Experience makes me feel like "I might as well post to my website, I can't even reach my followers here" but IDK how much of that has to do with dead-account inflation or not…
hikatamika.com
BSky definitely winning at the crossroads of "least evil" and "has enough funding to not be held by duct-tape and string".

I feel so, like, "the discoverability is a LIE!!!" though because I've… been so bad at reaching followers and new people (on all platforms) when I *wasn't* in art-burnout mode.
hikatamika.com
All that yapping to say, I am very much influenced by my experiences. I'm so, so, so, burnt out on trying to keep putting energy and faith in platforms. I've been going for so long on the idea that if I put in more effort, things will improve, and then wafflegate happens. Ugh 💀💧
hikatamika.com
I feel like I'm only able to be so scrappy and gung-ho about it because I'm like... a bit of a fluke-fail as far as Monetized Online Art Presence goes.

And like, I dunno. My follower/engagement/support ratios are all so bad anyway I'm a little bit like "to hell with the platform-reach promise!"

I wish basic web publishing literacy was made easier for regular folks to understand. And I wish people weren't brainwashed into thinking personal sites need to look/feel like webapps.

I was gonna open-source the source code for my site so you could copy me. Then financial and family troubles hit.

I love you all, platform enthusiasts. I was the BlueSky enthusiast before the J3sse S!n/gal apologism and ban-slamming of PS accounts, but here we are. aslkjdhalksdf

My platform enthusiasm is dead. I like my website. I want people to look at it.

I still have community enthusiasm though.
hikatamika.com
Question actually: why ARE we so anti-website. Why was my website-positive post quote-remixed into an

"Actually, PLATFORMS. Use THIS one."-post? I don't like that.

(Gentle quote detach because I think quoter's post stands on its own two legs just fine. Also I have Pillowfort burnout from when my genuine efforts turned into voidposting, during one tumblr exodus one time. [Funny how many tumblr exoduses there were.])

We need the Blueskys and the Twitters and the Instagrams of this world to tell people where our real websites and blogs are, haha

Whether it's a blog/site you control, or one in the hands of photomatt, people are preparing.
