My man @nickparish.bsky.social offers up his thoughts on private equity and its effects on fly fishing and the outdoors industry.

Where do you weigh-in on how PE impacts the quality of the gear we choose to buy and our most beloved brands?

Water fishing? Not that I thought it was possible, but this idiot’s vapid ignorance, wholly devoid of curiosity and the ability to articulate coherently outdoes itself on a daily basis. Blown away? Good lord.

Trump: "I think water fishing, I think almost anything we have to get into a boat right now in that area would not be doing too well."

Redington is a great starter combo with good Rio lines (same parent company). For clients on the boat, and especially those who are newer to the sport, the relative line weight, balance, and quality on the Orvis Clearwater combos are very impressive. Incredible value for a very price-conscious kit.

It’s absolutely true. When I was teaching first-time casters, inevitably the question would turn to which rod I thought was best. I’d always say, “the one with best line. Invest there.”

Aside from Pitt, if you’re familiar with Jim Harrison, you also know that Legends was written under a heavy dose of fly fishing and more than a few other vices.

I could do most everything with either a leech pattern or a Clouser. It’s a coin toss.

By the way, good to see you back.

I get it. The political apparatus is disgusting. But the bulk of that is Californians and Washingtonians who like to identify as “victims”. And of course, the neo-Nazis (such as they are “organized”) originate from Oregon. If we on the left care about preserving natural beauty, let’s take Idaho back

It’s been a summer of fun with this little guy. So far, a new Weber carb and pending conversion to disc brakes. Will keep it mostly stock but thinking about a minor lift as I upgrade suspension. What do you think? #jeepster #overland #flyfishing #4x4

That is a nice feature and I know those pieces are continuing to evolve. Love supporting solid content.

Nick is a pal, yes, but he’s smart and loves fly angling. Moreover, he wants to share it all. So why not subscribe and give him a follow? You’ll be glad you did.

Totally slipped under my radar. Next year!

Another blatant abuse of power.

I did not fish while down on this trip to Oaxaca and Puerto Escondido, but I think we did pretty well. 😉
Just one of many dishes on the ethereal tasting menu at Criollo in Oaxaca. My home away from home at Casa Entremuros near Puerto Escondido. That view never gets old. The outdoor courtyard dining is as beautiful as it is delicious. Not surprisingly, Oaxaca exceeds its standing as one the world’s great culinary centers. Can’t wait to return.

By a country mile, peacock (and CDC) are my favorite natural fibers for trout flies.

No question. And when I mentioned the two authors I called out, it was more to fill a Gierach void than to identify the most skilled writers on the subject. That might be a different discussion.

New little stream rig. I’ll share photos as I smooth out a few of the rough edges. She’s a joy to bump around in and has enough juice to pull a few of the boats.
