SO many of the replies went something like "well what if I have a stroller, or a big awkward suitcase and I have no choice." Bros! Broettes! That's what the word "gratuitous" up there was covering; extenuating circumstances clearly exist!

Geraardsbergen as the riders went up the classic cobbled Muur. We couldn't stay in Geraardsbergen at that point -- hotels were unobtainable -- but Gent had plenty of options and would make for an easy morning ride over to G'bergen thereafter. We were frankly blown away by how much we enjoyed Gent.
