Happy Winter Solstice!

Today is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. Today the sun reaches its southern most point, transitioning from fall to winter and the start of longer days.

What will you do with more daylight?

We are saddened to share the news that Larry Klementowski, Klem, passed away from cancer on Tuesday. Klem served many years as the President of Chino Hills State Park Interpretive Association, dedicating much of his time and energy to supporting the State Park.

On November 15, 2008, the hills ignited in two places. A large conflagration merged and burned across several days. Tens of thousands of people evacuated. More than 30,000 acres burned to the ground. More than 300 homes destroyed and/or damaged. What is your advice to new neighbors?

We highly recommend trying it every morning.

Three cheers to the OC Transportation Authority, Department of Parks and Recreation, Recon, & Orange County voters! The North Coal Canyon restoration project, above the 91 Freeway, has been restored and signed off by the permitting agencies. This 5.5 acre project improves coastal sage scrub habitat.

Tuesday, November 4 is Election Day. Remember to get out and vote. These decisions keep or replace elected leaders who do (or don't) support preservation of the hills. Therefore, the future of the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor depends on your vote tomorrow! #ElectionDay #VoteForTheHills

Remember wildlife haven't adapted to a PB and J or granola bars... keep your snacks to yourself and let the wildlife find their own food! #KeepWildlifeSafe

Did you know that turkey vultures only eat dead critters? Yep, that's why they have a featherless head. It's one way they keep themselves clean. Hey! Every species has a role in the ecosystem. Follow their lead and #LeaveNoTrace

Natural lands provide a place for wildlife to live. It's their home. Just like you may live at 123 Main Street, they live at Sycamore Canyon in the Puente Hills Preserve. Be sure to give wildlife room to roam. #KeepWildlifeSafe
