An older piece but a perennial favourite.

'La même histoire'
Ink on Moleskine sketchbook paper, approximately 127 × 208 mm, 2018.

#MerMay
Ink drawing of a mermaid sitting atop a perpendicular, tree trunk-like rock in the water. Her long hair trails right down to her seat and obscures her face entirely. Her head is bowed, and there is a strong suggestion that she may be weeping.

Hen and Frog.

Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, 95 × 64 mm.
Drawing in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of a hen startled by a frog leaping out from a small cluster of ferns. The hen's comb and wattle are the only touch of red gouache.

Natee’s work is sublime! So much detail. So elegant. So tiny!

'Princess Joveta sends her grateful thanks to her friend the great Khan for his kind gift of her new pet Velociraptor, with whom she is delighted. Isambart now responds to his name, is taking well to training, and bids fair to becoming a very fine hunter.'
Brown pencil drawing of a lady in fine robes and a headscarf walking a feathered Velociraptor on a leash.

I wore a shower cap to fry eggs, because I just washed my hair last night.

'Hoping'

Brown pencils on ivory cartridge paper, 150 × 105 mm.

#Junicorn
Monochrome, sepia toned drawing in brown pencils on ivory toned paper. A unicorn with a rich, dappled coat walks quietly through the grass, its head and neck held slightly lowered, almost in line with its body. Its demeanour is gentle, almost cautious.

'Still'
Brown pencils on ivory cartridge paper, 150 × 105 mm.

Belated #Junicorn
Sepia-toned, monochrome drawing of a unicorn in side view, standing in a field of tall grasses, facing right. The unicorn has a rich dappled coat and a gentle expression. Beyond it, a tree is framed in a roundel. The foreground grasses are drawn in negative, with the dark areas around and between them forming their shapes. The whole piece is small and intricate.

They won't! 😄 You wouldn't be eating them on their own. The bits in the mortar are pounded and get cooked with other ingredients. The mixture in the small bowl is a condiment, used sparingly over the final dish.

It's rutting season. This older drawing on a train ticket is from c.2013 (eek), but I'm still fond of it. I'd visited Wollaton Hall and deer park in Nottingham (wollatonhall.org.uk), hence the ticket to Beeston.

Red deer.
Pencil and sepia powder on train ticket primed with gesso.
Drawing on a train ticket of the head, neck, and shoulders of a rutting red deer stag, facing right. The words 'London' and 'Beeston' are still visible at the lower left corner.

I forgot to mute the sound, I'm sorry. 😅 I was listening to BBC Radio 3's Night Tracks.

And for anyone unfamiliar with the brush:

I think I have newer readers here than elsewhere. I generally use traditional Chinese brushes for both drawing (in ink) and painting.
Five traditional Chinese brushes of various sizes, with natural hair bristles and bamboo handles.
