Poem on a white back ground Icarus By Mitchell Carey “The boy who flew too close to the sun” Trapped within a prison, when I was finally free I knew what freedom tasted like I have been told to be careful, but it was a sweet taste I never knew. I was finally unbound by rules and laws, the sky was my limit, it went beyond the horizon. I flew higher and higher, how could I not. The warm sun they said not to challenge, yet it hugged my skin with its warmth. They said I had wings of wax and that’s what caused me to fall, I was born with these wings they did not melt off. No instead of a force of nature, it was man that brought me down to earth. They called me a freak but I soared to the gods. But I was too free, my own blood threw me back down to earth. People who saw taunted me for days, I had no choice but to leave. So I shall take these golden shears to the wings, so they grow no more. Let me hide amongst the people. Tell them I am dead Maybe then I’ll be free, even if I never kiss the sky again. A grey cloudy background that transition into sunlight at the top left. What it is like to have brown hair? Deep lilac eyes? You are as fascinating to me as I am to you, we are the same, yet so different. In one I am younger, protected from the harm in my youth, In another my story already told, that now I am just dust and bones. What future lies behind my eyes? Is it one of hope? Is the future full of fear of shame I am yet to witness? In one I live in the future I mourned, what is that like? Once an object of my jealous mind. Does it matter? Maybe not, I just hope we both are at peace My story is mine to be told, but I shall give a voice to the others in my mind, Because their stories want to be told, even it is just between the two of me.

When I Return When I return to the place of creation It will not be the dust of dirt but the dust of stars For there was where I was born, and there I will be made anew But first under the trees I shall go, with questions my living brain ponders As I lay in the box, how will the world be? Will it be better than when I entered it or is its fate a doomed destiny? What stories will my life have told? Not on pages but in hearts I touched so. Will I be the last of my branch? Or have many twigs that flower from it? As people surround my coffin, how many phases did they see? How many regrets will be shed? There was never enough time to spend with me People from my past unearthing themselves, perhaps from some I have seen in years As my bond with this plane breaks, will the sorrow create new ones to share? I know it is pointless to ask questions you will not see But it still wanders through my mind, I have one hope That while with death I hope it was peaceful Let there be wrinkles, so that my story is full, let me grow old

Astronomers say they have found the strongest indication of life beyond our solar system, on a planet 124 light-years away called ‘K2-18b.’

While they have not declared the finding of life, they detected “potential biosignatures” that are typically produced by living organisms like marine algae.
