Looks like RFK is going to announce that Tylenol usage and folate deficiency during pregnancy "causes" autism. There's so much wrong with this I don't even know where to begin....

Super proud to be included in this amazing reader with such awesome scholars. Public-facing scholarship is the future! @nursingclio.bsky.social

Yes, excellent work! And I've looked at Shannon Withycombe, James Mohr, etc. But not quite as helpful on this part of the discussion...

Is there anything out there regarding miscarriage lawsuits pre-Roe? Like injury lawsuits. I've seen some tort discussions, but they're all later. American context preferred.

It's interesting how different states/nations handle these issues differently!

The state of Missouri answered this for me. State law prohibits identifying minor victims. The archive is redacting the file and I've deleted her name. We're also not supposed to identify non- state officials in those cases.

Oh absolutely. I will check out her piece! This chapter is in its infancy so I have time to decide what I think will be best. She didn't even have a dying declaration so she can't even tell her story that way. At the end of the day it's just so sad and tragic.

Yeah, it definitely is. This girl was a victim of her grandfather and she died during an abortion. I definitely don't want to dehumanize her, but I also don't want to almost re-victimize her. And if I use his name and not hers? I think that's unacceptable.

Advice please: in this historical case there is a minor SA victim. She is fully identified in the court transcript. I don't plan on using her name. Is it okay to use initials for the other folks in the case? All these folks are long deceased (case from 1908), but I want to be ethical...

the basic message of the republican party is “fuck you, you’re on your own.”

Mike Johnson on Texas floods: "In a moment like this, we feel just as helpless as everyone else does ... all we know to do at this moment is pray."

Just reading a case from 1912 of a 13 yo r**e victim who died after an abortion. And they're debating in court if her r**ist promised marriage or if she was just promiscuous. I'm going to go cry and think about this poor girl.

Other than James Mohr, any scholars looking at physicians testifying in the US? Particularly in abortion cases. Up to Roe.

“The pope will be from Chicago” sounds like an 1880s Republican’s dire prediction for if we don’t stop Irish immigration

Does anyone know of any American histories of male partners suing providers after performing an abortion on their female partner? Pre-Roe

In the US! I should have clarified.

Historians: any work you know on discussions of abortion in divorce proceedings before 1973?

I received sabbatical leave in the fall to work on my legal history of abortion in Missouri. I am ready to revive my "dissertation writing" style. Robe? ✅️ Fuzzy socks? ✅️ Charlie's bulletin board from IASIP mapping out chapters in the most chaotic way possible? ✅️✅️✅️

Lot of bad stuff happening right now. But Kendrick calling Drake a p**o on live TV at the biggest show in the country? Makes me feel a little better.

I live in the KC area. I don't have to watch the game to know how it's going. My neighbors are very clear. And very loud. 😬

Am I stress shopping? Yes, yes I am.

That's what I'm hearing from some folks! I think this is #1 on the list of options. Thank you!

Yeah, I considered that one. Why I liked BITS was that it connected lots of movements - FSM, anti war, Civil Rights, Black Power, counterculture. It's excellent but I just can't watch it yet again...

Historian hive mind: I need a new documentary for class. I used to show "Berkeley in the Sixties," but I've seen it so many times I can no longer stand it. I want a good doc, no longer than 160 minutes, that gives a good look at the anti-Vietnam war movement in the US. Any ideas?

Non- historians can write excellent histories. But too many have no idea of historical methodologies and produce interpretively... not great.... work. What we do AND HOW WE DO IT matters a great deal.

Almost everyone I work with has been short tempered, sad, and defeated since last week. It's hard not to feel that way. But a student from one of my surveys came up after class and wanted a LGTBQ+ book list to "know my history." These little moments are beautiful and we need to hold onto them.
