Had an OIA on the Marsden decisions land. This appears to be the ground zero and the level of thinking Collins put into gutting humanities funding. I have found no actual *advice* or analysis on the removal of humanities panels and literally zero engagement with Royal Society or Universities.

This is, btw, the clearest example of direct political interference in the research system I've ever seen in NZ - a Minister ordering that entire areas of research be de-funded because she doesn't think they're worthy.

This is absolutely devastating news for humanities and social sciences in NZ; this isn’t a budgetary decision, it’s a political and ideological one
And funding opportunities for the social sciences and humanities have been cut from the Horizon Europe programme. 🤬

Horizon Europe's overall budget is 95.5 BILLION euros. The gov't has decided that NZ's access to the portion of those $ that relates to humanities & social sciences isn't worth pursuing.

Horizon investment in our researchers would cost the NZ taxpayer next to nothing for huge investment & reward
And funding opportunities for the social sciences and humanities have been cut from the Horizon Europe programme. 🤬
