I’m on the lookout for hidden historical gems in Hampshire, ruined chapels, forgotten manor houses, ancient yews, quiet churchyards, that sort of thing. Any recommendations?

Visited the fashionable Donnington Castle in 2018.

Its twin-towered gatehouse was built in the 1380s for Sir Richard de Abberbury. During the Civil War, the castle endured a brutal 20-month siege, leaving it badly damaged.”

The historic church of St. Mary’s situated in Sompting, West Sussex.

St. Mary’s church, which dates back over 1000 years, is famous for its Rhenish Helm on the church tower.

This is the only example of this type of Saxon architecture in the UK.
