In Slave Revolt on Screen, @drsepinwall.bsky.social discusses Assassins Creed: Freedom's Cry which deals w/topics adjacent to the Haitian Revolution and enslavement and did a fair job of it.

@ubisoft.com had the potential do this right.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is in Portland meeting with ICE, Border Patrol and DHS officials; Nick Sortor posted video of Noem saying a prayer for the safety of their officers at the start of the meeting.

NEW: I spoke to clergy and faith leaders who've joined protests at the Chicago-area ICE facility.

Three say they've been shot with pepper balls, sometimes while praying.
All say ICE is also violating their religious freedom, and one is arguing it in court.

Trying to explain to a student how the two-letter abbreviations for state works...

If it's a two-word state, it's the 1st letter of each name (NJ).
Otherwise it's the 1st & 2nd letter of the name (WA), unless its the 1st & last letter (ME). Or its Arizona (AZ) bc... idk 🤷‍♂️

I have the manual silent switch engaged, a pair of wired earbuds connected to the phone, and an on-phone song file selected as the alarm sound. Previously, with those factors in place, the alarm would play the song. Today... silence 😒

I think it's one of the accomplishment's of this film... the nearly seamless integration of music from two different eras in serivce of the single story.

Also helped that the 80s was an era of 50s/60s nostalgia and so audiences were primed for somehting like this.

So it is acceptable to teach and dance the latin numbers (mambo, cha-cha, and pachanga) but when Johnny proposes doing a soul number... he's immediately shut down.

The anti-black racism is present, even in this very white setting.
