since 2025 is winding down, here's a list of cool games I played that came out this year!

like last time, games are roughly ordered in tiers but it doesn't really matter. (still not sure about some of these placements.) the full list is written out in the alt text.
Game of the Year: Look Outside The Big Ones: Hollow Knight: Silksong, Deltarune (Ch. 3+4), The Roottrees are Dead, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy Unbelievably stylish and striking: ENA: Dream BBQ (Ch. 1), A Chamber of Stars, Fragrance Point They were cooking here: PEAK, Despelote, Kirby Air Riders, Fourmiworld, Rift of the Necrodancer Comfort Food: Wanderstop, Pokémon Legends Z-A, Danganronpa Antebellum: LOCKDOWN, Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Star-Crossed World DLC) The Short and Sweet Zone: Formless Star, Unfair Flips, Asterism, Nubby's Number Factory, This Game Will End in 2025 Clicks, Digseum, FACE LOVE, The Children of Clay Huge mess but still pretty cool: Everhood 2 Fun and well-made but I didn't end up liking it very much: Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World

finally got around to beating Pokémon Legends: ZA! pretty cool videogame!

my main team I used is the one at the top, but I ended up cycling between 3 teams worth of various guys throughout the game.

dug up one of my old notebooks. here’s some sketches I made back when I was working on Booster Blade!
Notebook page shows crude sketches of the player character swinging his sword in some different directions. I made these to draft Archie’s sprite animations. Sketches of some level design ideas which I’m not sure made it into the game. First drawing had the player move in a spiral shape outwards, using boost panels to keep them moving in one direction. Second drawing has branching hallways, each ending in buttons that are needed to open the exit door. Third drawing is a square room with “buttons that cover whole/most of floor.” Sketches of some level design ideas that were intended for the final stage. First drawing shows the sequence of hallways the player teleports between during the climax of the level. Second drawing shows a Z-shaped hallway with boost panels placed in the opposite direction of where the player is moving. It’s labeled “Me standing outside your house with a bat is also a trap.” The third drawing shows a large square with indents in it, each with a button. The player would need to circle around the shape and hit each of the buttons without being able to go backwards. I think all but this last design made it into the game. Big page that shows development of the hexagonal plant/virus enemy that’s introduced in Stage 6. There’s various diagrams for how it attaches to the wall and attacks the player. Notes mention that it’s “big and imposing” and that it “needs to be dealt with to progress.” The drawings show it with a closed eye that only opens when it’s vulnerable. Some of the early scrapped ideas I had were to have the weak points spin around it in circles, and have a vine-like line of bullets that snakes towards the player. (There’s also a drawing of Temmie’s long paw attack from Undertale that I used as inspiration)
