I am bisexual, and used to identify as gay, because I hadn't had the right life experiences yet. But I don't go around saying I'm 'ex-gay', because that term is associated with some very public homophobes. It's a similar situation here.

I believe them too. But my issue is once again with language and group identity. I think there is a difference between feeling dissatisfied with one's care, and choosing to identify with a social group which does contain some transphobic public-facing individuals.

OK well good for you?? Look it up then?

Sorry, I'm new to the platform and thought he was still involved.

No problem!

So he's able to finagle himself into positions no longer open to more overt transphobes.

He's some arsehole journalist who unlike 99% of frothing online transphobes, has a little bit of talent for writing; he's spent many years 'reporting' on gender affirming care and deluding people because he's careful to frame it as 'investigative journalism'.

is that the same Fred Durst who has a major role in one of the consensus best films of this year?
December 7, 2024 at 10:40 AM
Yeah this is my point, there's a difference between 'deciding transition isn't right for you' and 'detransitioner' and at this point it's impossible not to be aware of the connotations of the latter and the movement it represents.
December 7, 2024 at 6:47 AM
(obviously this isn't the case for every detransitioner, but it is absolutely, provably the case for every single public-facing detransitioner, with the exception of A'keria C. Davenport who doesn't even use the term for herself).

Yeah a lot of them are, as harsh as it sounds. Kiera Bell here in the UK had links to the organised religious far-right, and was rumoured to have been funded to 'whistleblow' by evangelical groups. They're very unwell people who have been radicalised and don't know what they even think anymore.

He's blocked me ... it almost feels ... nostalgic, somehow? This app didn't really feel real without having been blocked for calling out a celebrity.

(and also, um, 'I beat off 100 women to win my wife'. the whole thing was like a fever dream).

Monbiot was a big Owen Smith fan too, iirc - the Labour leadership hopeful who wanted to 'give Nicola Sturgeon the world's largest gobstopper' and 'smash Theresa May back on her heels' - so he's got a lot to learn before he starts pontificating on misogyny.

This isn't the response of someone interested in actually solving the problem, it's the response of a chin-stroking narcissist unable to recognise his own contribution.

Monbiot *is* a bad actor on this topic though. Here he is responding to someone who asked him why he was taken in by the charisma of a serial sex offender: bsky.app/profile/geor....
