I feel that Dag Hammarskjölds Waymarks is good reading in that respect.

A brilliant man, and with his faults, but damn, he tried to keep the UN together and strengthen it during the cold war when the great powers were duking it out.

"The Merchant shipping capacity? Oh, sorry, not available."

"And those medicines you wanted? Already sold".

(Not to speak of the larger knock-on effects).

Yeah, and even then people are not the same online as they are face to face.

I might have some embarassing takes on Americans (mainly on other sites), but that's mostly immediate reactions to stupid events, and not really indicative of how I think about Americans in general.

You're not wrong, and it's disheartening to see.

Yet sometimes Europe is uniquely seen as lacking historical agency.

I would like to think that yes, current Europe is slow on its feet, but it's not written in the stars that we will remain lying down.

My feed is too serious anyway, so some Sharon levity makes for a good palate cleanser.

Have you run this by the ELIZA chatbot?

It's at the very least a safe point of retreat (I say to myself to not compare disfavourably with my friends who have yet to get a room at the retirement home).

They hit it off in the karaoke booth.

As half Swede/half other European country that was directly affected there is much truth to this.

This is a special kind of stupid though.

Yeah, combine all of the intra-nordic jokes at each others expense and we have a real repertoire.

A nordic union could inspire shifting allegiances and new material.

The struggle is real as a Swede who likes to run their mouth while watching. If you aren't talking, are you even paying attention?

I'm usually able to contain myself in the theatre, but if I let myself go there's no stop to it.

Also, interesting study!

"Hello, I want to speak to your manager".
December 10, 2025 at 1:11 AM

December 10, 2025 at 12:40 AM

Nor discovered an old piece of text by chance and and with the benefit of distance thought "hey, this is actually decent, how did I even manage to write anything like this? That'll never happen again".
December 9, 2025 at 11:42 PM
It can only good happen.
December 4, 2025 at 1:56 PM
Of course, having that self-awareness stands in opposition to the "can't think clearly about anything" part.

But even great writers can misjudge this.
December 3, 2025 at 6:34 PM
The second sentence might be a touch too hard (on writers in general, not Nuzzi).

If you find yourself writing terrible text you probably don't understand your subject well enough. That's a signal to revise instead of publishing.

Not saying this to defend X, nor do I think it's changed for the better, but I was very surprised it worked this time. Probably a fluke caused by a tweak in the algorithm interacting with my user profile.

Anecdotally I recently muted a bunch of right wing loud-mouths in my (relatively small) native language.

My "For you" feed (bold of me even using I know), suddenly became much better.

Now the posts I get in Swedish are much more thoughtful, and I also get far less slop in English.
December 2, 2025 at 4:19 PM
Yup. Makes me think of that recent study of how small shifts in the algorithm can drive affective polarization.

The really hard part about browsing X is not holding firm to your opinions, it's holding firm to your emotions.
