I loved The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey when I was young. Her world building delighted and carried me away. I want to do the same thing for readers when I write fiction.

Louise Erdrich. The Round House. She's another vivid, gripping writer. Pick up any of her books and you'll see what I mean.

Patricia Highsmith. Strangers on A Train. What suspense.

Octavia Butler. Wild Seed. Absolutely brilliant, one of many brilliant offerings from this wonderful writer.

The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. Several books. All worth the reading time. It'll go by fast.
