Definitely. You can mask off the light source as well with some black construction paper so it only illuminates each frame of the negative. If you’re gonna get more serious about it too I recommend the basic 35mm holder from negative supply (get it on sale)

Depending on your budget you can get a cheap dslr and a macro lens with a light source too. How many rolls do you have to scan?
