"the cancellation was a result of #Trump and the Republican Party's spending cuts to public media over the summer."

The responsibility of for-profit media corporations, especially ABC, CBS, Fox Local, and NBC, in safeguarding the future of a non-dystopian U.S. is now immense.

"Once in office, the...machine followed the pattern of the Big Three #dictatorships of Europe, more especially those of #Germany and #Russia, in dealing with all recalcitrants", wrote J. Donald Adams in his review of Sinclair Lewis' 1935 novel "It Can't Happen Here."

Take a breath and remember that "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice", as Martin Luther King Jr. said.

There is also a quote attributed to #Gandhi - I think it was really invented by John Briley for the movie, but the message is important.

There has been some interest in the #theology of Ignacio #Ellacuría by theologians in the U.S.
Several books with analysis and interpretations have been published over the years.
Some examples 👇. Bibliography in alt-txt.

Unfortunately, not much of the writings of Ignacio #Ellacuría have been translated.
But, as always, one can count on @orbisbooks.bsky.social. They have published two books with his original writings.
The monograph "Freedom My Flesh", and an edited volume with selections by @meleeprof.bsky.social.

UK/U.S. editions of @theweek.com, are pretty blunt about what they think of the current leadership of #USA.

"the possibility of [the U.S.] employing military force – even against allies – is no longer ruled out", said Danish Defence Intelligence Service (DDIS) in December. tinyurl.com/ybu5nn9b

"despite Maduro's capture, many Venezuelans say the power structure they fled remains intact", writes Verónica Egui Brito in @miamiherald.com.

Wasn’t the argument that one had to remove an oppressive, criminal regime?
What about the 2024 election results—unimportant?

Some, but sadly very few, U.S. newspapers think that the murder of Renee Nicole Good by an #ICE agent is worth a big top headline on their front pages.

Does that tell us something about the papers’ views on the existence of ICE in the USA in 2026?
What about papers that didn’t make a big splash?

"We deplore the violent actions of #ICE agents which have traumatized people across the country for months, leading to mass incarcerations and deportations. We mourn the loss of Renee Nicole Good, the woman who was murdered by an ICE agent in Minneapolis yesterday", states @paxchristiusa.bsky.social

Me refería a los grandes medios internacionales, como la BBC, CNN, Sky, AJ, etc., que suelen tener corresponsales informando sobre Venezuela desde Buenos Aires, Santiago, Lima, etc.

Those 'conservative forces' were, mainly, Latin American bishops close to power, and Cardinal Ratzinger.

John Paul II understood better (than Ratzinger) the liberating potential of religion. In fact, he obliged Cardinal Ratzinger to soften the unnecessary strong critique of #liberationtheology.
