Absolutely. I live in a really safe Tory seat in the UK but have just challenged him on this:

Proposed ‘removals force’ will be tasked with deporting 150,000 people a year in bid to tackle illegal immigration

I’m a Brit watching from afar, but I know there are too many good people in the US and all around the world to let this stand. There will be a reckoning for this, keep the faith.

I heard you interview him at Glasto, John - and I like him, he seems to have been a pretty good Manc mayor. But I do remember how lacklustre his leadership campaign was against Corbyn and co - so all this King Across the Water stuff is a bit overblown IMO. But I agree he should stand.

Precisely! Yet more offence caused.

I would really welcome a @bylinetimes.bsky.social podcast where this analysis is discussed further. I can no longer sign up to the ‘it could never happen’ school of politics, so would dearly love to understand more about this grim prospect.

The bigliest aspirin, no doubt.

Exactly.

Brilliant.

For a draft-dodger like Trump to utter these words makes it all the more disgusting.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I’m experiencing something entirely new here - actually rooting for Michael O’Leary.

Hard agree, Alex.

I’m trying to do Dry January. None of this is helping.

Fair point.

C’mon Victoria Derbyshire - we *really* need you now!

I would guess they have the same mixture of predictable client media plus some bold independent players like we do? I started subscribing to The Atlantic, that’s a good US read.

It amazes me that it was his father Michael Young who drafted the Labour Party’s 1945 manifesto. What went wrong?!
January 17, 2026 at 12:25 PM
Great piece, George.

Keen to hear your experiences, Lewis. I’m also curious about those US citizens asking you to stay away. If ICE are as out-of-control as they seem to be, why not shine the light of the entire global media on what’s happening?

This makes me very sad. But so did my own government gifting Trump an entirely undeserved second state visit to the UK. What is this collective arse-kissing achieving?

I’d love to think that this will be the very last time that Mandelson disgraces himself publicly. But I also thought that the last time, and the time before that, etc etc.
