Physicians have been schooled to use the Mental Health Act to manage crisis in ER’s. There are other mechanisms that allow people to be temporarily detained in an ER to be treated, but nobody uses them. Potential upside is less hospitalization and no entry on a criminal record like MHA does.

You know, during the period of work from home (I never did), masking and mandatory sick time if symptomatic, my sick bank increased 400 percent. I don’t know if I’m an outlier in public service or if this is typical. Also less staff turnover with WFH.
