CDs can rip to FLAC so easily and with excellent quality.

There’s some issues depending on when it was mastered, with CDs from the late 90’s/early 00’s falling victim to the Loudness Wars. But for modern pressings and really old stuff, it’s the highest digital quality you can get.

You should at least buy the discog of your fav artists outright and keep them around, and fill out the rest with thrift/record store wins. You don’t have to keep the thrifty ones, but you might discover some bangers through that.
