"It is with great sadness that we share that David M. Webb MBE passed away peacefully in Hong Kong on Tuesday January 13th, 2026 from metastatic prostate cancer," according to a tweet on his profile on Tuesday.

Journalists, armed police and court-watchers have gathered ahead of Monday's Jimmy Lai mitigation hearing at West Kowloon Law Courts. In a first, court-watchers have been separated from the media with a new police cordon line and told to register their ID cards with police.

1/ The Hong Kong Observatory has warned farmers and residents in the New Territories of potential ground frost on Friday morning.

The Observatory issued the frost warning at 4.30pm on Thursday - the second this year.

The Observatory said on Wednesday morning that cold and dry conditions would persist over the next one or two days due to winter monsoons, with lows of around 10 to 11 degrees expected in urban areas and a few degrees colder in the New Territories.

People bundled up in jackets and scarves on Wednesday as the Hong Kong Observatory recorded a low of 10.8 degrees Celsius in the morning, the lowest temperature so far this winter.

Temperatures were even lower at high altitudes, such as at Tai Mo Shan, where the mercury hit 0.8 degrees.

90 legislators were sworn in for the eighth term of Hong Kong's Legislative Council on Thursday. The Chief Executive John Lee administered the ceremony and determined that all oaths taken by the lawmakers are valid.
