Just here to make friends and have fun! Oh, and to stare into the void.

Mostly my garden and project journal, tbh.

I feel like spending Friday night hanging out on my sofa and crocheting a dog sweater while listening to Sarah Marshall’s Satanic Panic podcast is the most millennial thing I’ve ever done.

Mostly out of curiosity, we cut up and roasted the pumpkins I grew and they’re delicious! Freezer full of pumpkin now.

Tulip bulbs were quite expensive this year due to tariffs or inflation or tarifflation, so the best value I found were these guys on clearance from Menards at $2.80 a bag.

Cheap pack of narcissus from Costco from waaay earlier in the fall

Rushing to put the garden to bed in this burst of temperate weather.

Using a fb reels technique (I know! I’ve become a crone), where you lay out bulbs in groups and bury them in the same hole. Most of this dirt is stuff I dumped out of pots!

Gross. I grudgingly cleared the tomato vines away.

I had no idea previously frozen green tomatoes are the texture of water balloons wrapped in tissue paper.

Northern lights tonight…

A preliminary try-on of the crocheted dog sweater. He’s halfway between the S and M size, so I’m going off book a little.

looking good so far!

Working on the collar. Looks pretty good so far and I’ve only needed to watch 3 YouTube videos (admittedly a couple of times)

A chunky knit, but we sometimes call the dog “Missouri Slim” so I have confidence he’ll pull it off.

I saw Margaret Atwood with on Saturday and I wanted to write down some of the brilliant things that she said.

First of all, there was a slide of her holding a coffee cup that said “I told you so.”

Ehhh… I think this is the end for the tomatoes.

The gales of November came early.

Eariy snow, sniffly kid, and a Friendsgiving coming up, so I got out my trusty cookie press and made some extremely derpy #Thanksgiving cookies.

The final stage of a pumpkin’s life: being dropped from a cherry picker into a dumpster by gleeful public works guys at SCARCE Pumpkin Smash event.

My beloved friend brought me THE BEST @harebrained.bsky.social sticker. I put it on my ofrenda
November 2, 2025 at 11:13 PM
8 months ago I planted the seeds for these marigolds specifically so I could put them on the ofrenda today and tomorrow. I’m surprisingly emotional about it.

I cannot believe I’ve seen the whole journey from pumpkin seed to jack-o’-lantern! 🎃

We carved these three out of 12, and I think they would probably be good eating pumpkins too. Nice firm, evenly colored flesh and lots of seeds.

Happy Halloween!

Another progression pic from last night. I usually listen to podcasts or YouTube essays So the brain is thoroughly occupied.

Extra fun this time of year when they’re Halloween-themed

I’m starting with an inexpensive navy cotton sweater and I have basted a small section of waste canvas on it.

I am putting the design on the left side like a crest. The embroidery hoop isn’t strictly necessary, but it’s helpful.

Definitely scrolling too much so another project: a kids sweater with a raccoon. 🦝

First thing is to make my #Crosstitch pattern. I do look at premade ones for reference, but the size is never right so I usually make my own. The yellow will be white on the finished raccoon.

This cake was very rich and dense. I was surprised how much the cinnamon and cayenne came out!

Excellent with whiskey.

Skull-shaped chocolate Bundt cake cooling on a rack. I added some cinnamon and cayenne so the kitchen smells delightful.

Chocolate glaze to come later.

Starting setting up the ofrenda yesterday (waiting with the photos and offerings) and I’m so so pleased with the cloth!

Most of the figures are collected over the years from the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen or San Antonio.

The seed packet said these sulfur cosmos were supposed to be 3 feet max.

Well, they’re well over 6’ and the second wave of blooms is feeding the neighborhood insects and birds.
