I've no idea of the point you're trying to make.

I do find it ironic that you say you've learned your anti-democratic position from Brexit, considering Brexit is the whole basis for Scotland's indyref2. Still, you colonials know best I'm sure.

I see, so you *might* be willing to support democracy so long as the rules are set up in such a way to provide your desired outcome. How very colonial of you, Barry.
October 3, 2025 at 12:55 PM
That's fair enough Barry. Is there any chance they'll become pro-democracy by dropping opposition to indyref2 though?

Instead of training their guns on Reform, Labour will try to offer a gentler version of them by aping their language and policy.

India, Ireland, USA, Singapore, and now Scotland. They all got the colonial 'you're too poor' treatment.

What's the source for this quote?

I'm expecting the UK to need another bailout at some point in the reasonably near future too. Can't solve the stagflation problem. Future prospects extremely negative

Aye, McWilliams (like the rest of his compatriots) know that a country's economy can't thrive while it's run as a satellite to south east England with no macroeconomic powers.

GDP per capita isn't an accurate measure of living standards though. Consumption per capita is what you're looking for

It did go under in the 70s.... Had to be bailed out by the IMF in 1976

You're right he hasn't. That's because Salmond and Sturgeon presided over big international stories (indyref1 and brexit). Swinney doesn't have anything similar. He's no more known or visible to you as the leader of any other foreign country, like say, Norway.

Ahh yes, that well known "island" of England.
June 17, 2025 at 9:00 AM
The argument for not joining the Euro is about monetary sovereignty. Which is very different to the control/sovereignty argument the brexiteers made
June 4, 2025 at 5:11 PM
Hmm, I doubt it. It's probably the Starmer effect

The best example of which is the BBC/England's puke-inducing deference to the monarchy

And to avoid yet another defeat in Scotland:

5. End their opposition to indyref2

Thanks for your reply. I'm interested in why the 2014 weighting is problematic. Is it because it's exaggerating the elderly No vote, as alluded to in this exchange? BTW, I don't have an opinion on the Find Out Now issue, and certainly not trying to engage in whataboutery.

So is he arguing that people over say 70 now are more likely to vote yes than that sample were in 2014 - or that there is a smaller proportion of voting population in that sample now? If the latter, how does that fit with Scotland's aging population?

That article is from February and refers to an old poll. James Kelly covers the issue as part of this post....
