That's interesting! I was taught differently in my youth, but it felt wrong even then and it's gnawed at me ever since - to the point where I reword things to avoid the problem.

I have, for years now, been annoyed about Disney marketing their next movies as "the next Disney classic". Something doesn't have to be good, or apparently even in existence yet, for marketing to convince people it's "classic".

In the prairies in the 90s, it was:
- Several of the standard Shakespeares
- Take your pick of the standard Dickens
- The "oh nos" (Orwell, Huxley, Atwood)
- Other British stuff: Maugham, Bronte
- The American stuff: Steinbeck, Wyndham, Salinger, Miller
- French stuff (because Canada)
