Hollinger POTD Darius Miles. HS phenom from E St Louis was drafted 3rd in 2000 by LAC. Great physical skills was raw & but couldn't shoot well. Traded to CLE in 02 & flipped to POR where he had career high 14 ppg in 05-06 before knee problems ended his career.

Bonus Hollander POTD Yinka Dare. GW C was drafted 14th in 94 by NJ. Large but was really raw. Didn't play as a rookie due to knee. Famously had 0 assists in 626 min in 95-96. Out of NBA by 98. Per bio "trails Stockton by mere 12,168 assists." Sadly died too young in 04.

Hollander POTD Kenny Anderson. NYC PG starred at Georgia Tech drafted 2nd by NJ in 91. Fitch sat him as a rookie but blossomed under Daly. Super quick penetrator who had a great handle. Peaked at 19 ppg 9.6 apg & all-star in 93-94. Also spent time w/POR & BOS thru 2005.

Some funny Ladner anecdotes from Terry Pluto's "Loose Balls"....

O'Brien POTD Wendell Ladner. So Miss SF signed w/MEM of ABA in 70. Had 17 pg, 11.4 rpg as rook & then became enforcer for KY/NY (Dr J loved him). Per bio: "given to outbursts...he might bust you in the jaw." Also "always after Rick Barry's hide for some reason." Died in a plane crash in 75. RIP.

Bonus Hollander POTD Harold Ellis. Morehouse SF was undrafted in 92 & spent yr in CBA before sticking w/LAC in 93-94 & averaging 8.7 ppg w/smarts & hustle. Lost time in 94-95 & went to Europe to play except brief return w/DEN in 97-98. Has coached & scouted since retirement.

Hollander POTD Chris Whitney. Clemson PG was drafted 47th in 93 by SA. Made the team but didn't get much time. Waived in 95, he hooked up w/WAS where he played 8 yrs as mostly a backup, except 01-02 when he started & had 10 ppg 4 apg. Retired in 04 & now works in real estate.

Hollinger POTD Grant Hill. Bio from 04-05, when he made a big comeback after barely playing his 1st 4 yrs in ORL. Looked like a title team in 00 when ORL signed Hill & TMac. Alas Hill's ankle never fully recovered. He did return to All-Star in 04-05 & stayed mostly healthy thru retirement in 2013.

Bonus Hollander POTD Rex Chapman. Kentucky SG was drafted 8th in 88 by CHA. He scored well but had low FG%. Shot selection got better when he went to WAS in 92. Peaked at 18.2 ppg in 93-94. Signed w/PHO in 96 & played well, including those crazy shots he hit in 97 playoffs.

Hollander POTD Grant Hill. Duke star was drafted 3rd in 94 by DET. Immediate star who got tagged as anti-Gen X good guy (to his annoyance). Was HOF-level for DET (all-NBA 5x) before breaking ankle in 00 playoffs. Signed w/ORL but was never the same. Still, solid pro thru 2013.

Hollinger POTD Theron Smith. Ball State PF was undrafted in 03 but signed 2 yr contract w/MEM. Had 2 ppg for 20 gms as a rook. Taken in 04 expansion draft by CHA. Played more but shot very poorly. Then had knee issues the KOed his NBA career after 05. Played abroad thru 2014.
