My embroidery portrait of a young ‘van Gogh’ is breathing in the art of Caravaggio, who painted this central painting, while he lived in Malta. The painting is now preserved in the St. John‘s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

Fold and glue the extra fabric to the backside with a glue stick and secure with pegs. Let it dry. Next step will be to stitch the Vincent van Gogh portrait to the canvas.

A frequent question, I am asked about my embroidery art, is how to stitch on a transparent textile. I embroider on synthetic organza and integrate a hidden white layer, which stabilizes the organza and I can use to sketch the portrait on.
