The CBS takeover by Larry Ellison and Bari Weiss is the most foreboding move in a while, and I’m not saying that lightly.

It will have an effect on the 2026 elections: CBS will now lie to people and normies will believe it.

"Italian producers wary as Trump's war against pasta comes to a boil" would have been a better headline.

Maybe he'll ask for a $20 billion bailout.

"In the Middle East it often does."

Almost like cavalierly drawing geopolitical boundaries and centuries of imperialist skullduggery aren't great ingredients for stability.

We have an electorate of the eternally adolescent.

In homes and Facebook groups, our friends and family continually buy in to conspiracy theorizing and casual racism, and pushback never happens for the sake of "civility." The unserious nature of American political discourse is an endpoint, not a start.

There is no substance to our discourse; we have educational institutions where students aren't given what they need to meet proficiency standards, but are still promoted anyway. We have churches where the prosperity gospel and cheap grace are the order of the day.

There are so many mediocrities who run for office. Almost none of them can look past the next election cycle. Awareness of long-term trends is alien to them. The odds are not in our favor any more, and rah-rahing a bloated military complex and doing performative patriotism is doing fuck-all for us.

We need someone who has the slightest goddamn awareness of how America's economic and geopolitical influence is slowly waning due to a variety of factors, some irreversible, and can triangulate a course to slow this decline for as long as possible. They need an ounce of fucking vision.

Same with the Trump-era tariffs (a misuse of tariff authority) that Biden opted to keep in place even though Congress didn't approve them.

Shadow Docket. This Supreme Court ruled in favor of Trump an appalling number of times without explaining themselves and they worked against the Biden administration. They are not impartial and their corruption is open and flagrant.

The nominative determinism of this specific atrocity is off the charts here.

It's so important to nip the framing of this reporting in the bud right now.

Don't accept the narrative that Trump and his team only just started discussing invoking the Insurrection Act. January 6 happened because his White House was in conversation with radicals about what it'd take to invoke it.
Trump administration officials seriously discussing invoking Insurrection Act, sources say
A decision isn't expected to be imminent, one source said, but debate within the administration has shifted recently to more deeply exploring how and when the act might be invoked.

I'm not an expert on voting laws or policy, but it strikes me as quite a long shot that the GOP could actually get this done before 2026 and have it pass legal muster. Regardless, the fact that these OR GOP activists are talking publicly about their desire to nullify Oregonians' votes is bananapants
