Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.

My favorite thing about people like Hegseth is that they're so far up their own asses they think they're smarter/better than everyone else. A Defense Secretary could just decline to comment, not say anything, ignore it all.

But Hegseth is so smart, smarter than us, and he's gonna post through it.
a lot of words, none of them denying that Hegseth gave an order to kill helpless people who were stranded at sea after he blew up their boats

This is actually a relevant factor here: it's been pretty clear SOUTHCOM, whose commander resigned, has been pushing back, at least somewhat. They're putting it under the operational command of SOCOM specifically because that's the most already rotten place you'll find people happy to do crimes.
Why do you need Seal Team 6 to blow up a fucking boat?

If the political branches want to have fast, effective accountability, they should also pass laws establishing a special tribunal, with streamlined process, and a set of laws criminalizing specific conduct and applying retroactively. And then strip judicial review of those too.
