Well hi folks! I should introduce myself…

I’ve dedicated my life to supporting Democrats running in some of the reddest districts in the country…

and encouraging grassroots folks to come into their power.

There’s a lot in between, of course. So happy to meet you. 💙

Embedded video crews maximize the production value of fascism. Get enough clips and you can tell whatever story suits you.

The reality tv president knows how to manufacture the reality he wants people to see.

It’s the only thing he has ever excelled at.

You don't say.

The pain from these cuts will be felt by people everywhere. Because people everywhere need healthcare and affordable insurance.

We should fix this because it's the right thing to do. For everyone, everywhere.

I hate to disappoint people.

Usually.

#IAmAThorn 🙂 Even a thorn, humble and small, can stand between what’s sweet and what would destroy it.

We are a sea of thorns.

Not isolated. Not separate. But intertwined like my backyard raspberry plants that – with their prickly exterior – guard what is sweet and soft and vulnerable from the cascade of threats that surround them.

The GOP’s “clean” continuing resolution is pretty dirty.

Because it goes to Nov 21.

But ACA open enrollment starts November 1. THREE WEEKS BEFORE.

So premiums would be locked in.

And by signing on, Dems would be giving up their main argument before negotiations even start.

That’s not “clean”.

Exactly! I remember when an entire week's worth of groceries for a family of four were $100. They filled the entire trunk. That was the '80s. (And obviously I'm the annoying one that asks for paper bags. 😂)

Let’s set the record straight, shall we?

Ha! I know someone who brings in his tiny orange tree every fall. It’s adorable. I think he gets a handful of mandarin-sized fruits each season.

Not sure where you are, but prices here have not settled. Not at all.
hornish.bsky.social
Yep. I don’t think folks know that the $10k injection every two weeks as described in this article is not an outlier at all. I hope your daughter is doing well. 💙

I got a few groceries yesterday. Four bags for $250. I shook my head.

The checker nodded.

“It’s scary how much things cost now,” she said. “I see it every day.”

Then she looked at me earnestly.

“Do you garden? I think I’m going to plant one next year.”
hornish.bsky.social
She is not alone. Every time I speak about this (often these days) I get comments and DMs.

“We’re hoping my husband’s chemo is done in time.”
“This is just like my sister.”
“We’re going without insurance next year”

Stories help people imagine themselves in the situation. We need more of them.
KC-area cancer patient depends on tax credit. Will Congress let it expire?
A single shot she must receive every other week costs around $10,000 each time, she said.

Frustrating is one word for it. I have a few more.

I'm glad you're telling your story, because that's not easy. But it's hard for folks to understand if they've not been through it.

So I'm trying to lay it out for folks – that you don't just get to kick back and drink smoothies and do yoga.

You have to fight our system –daily– to stay alive. 💙💙💙

Yes! I couldn’t tell if your comment was intended to refute the fact that some folks will be paying more than double the premiums.

These Medicare increases will really hurt a lot of people and you’re right. They’re not getting enough attention. I’m glad you shared the data!
hornish.bsky.social
That’s Medicare - and even it is going up.

The cost for a 60 year old couple that’s insured via the ACA marketplace and are making 82k a year will go from less than $7k to more than $24k. Even higher in some states.

This morning someone woke up, the day after a new cancer diagnosis, wondering if they will have health insurance in three months.

Their coverage will cost 2-3 times as much. They’re doing the math. Looking around for what they can sell. Looking up GoFundMe.

I think about that person a lot.
hornish.bsky.social
My point is that we should make it easy for folks, not make them do math in their head.

Using the $$ (not %) makes it easy to understand right off the bat. That would be my advice for folks – use the actual $$ figures. But to each their own! 😊
