The dirty little not so secret of the U.S. Army is there’s a huge qualitative difference in active duty and National Guard officers - Hegseth was NG.
This is not to say there aren’t bad AD officers and really good NG officers, but overall the NG has much lower standards.

No way this was US IC. It’s was almost certainly a European intelligence service that collected and leaked this, almost certainly with high level political instructions to do so. There’s no way some mid level US intel officer would take the risk of going to jail for a very long time to do it.

There’s no practical reason for the Navy to have its own commando force when we have the USMC. Navy SEALs are an expensive indulgence as every mission they conduct could be nested in the USMC far more efficiently. And the BUDS pass rate wouldn’t be in the teens if Marines were in the pipeline.
