With self-published stuff I might sell 20-30 copies of something at a show, at least if it’s debuting there. I have no idea if that’s typical. Your book has been out for a few months, but it’s also had a bit of buzz, so maybe those things balance out? It’s always 90% guesswork I’m afraid!

Yeah, if it’s likely to be a massive time-sink if it turns out I like it, I think about all the other things I want to do with my one precious life and my curiosity immediately shrivels.

Too many to list, I suspect. No Star Wars outside the original trilogy, no Friends, no Breaking Bad or Curb or Seinfeld. Never got through a full episode of The Fast Show or Little Britain. Not deliberately avoiding most of them, I've just always got something I'd rather be doing.

I find it odd that people talk about “zombie strips” that continue to appear in newspapers after the original cartoonist has died but for some reason don’t extend this to comic books

I’ve seen a couple of “graphite editions” (reproductions of pencils). Odd to do those but not, you know, the actual finished comics.

I remember being told that the box office takings for this were greater than those of ET in New Zealand. (Very little to do with the film and everything to do with how much people loved the comic strip.)

I've been furious for days. I declare an interest: I migrated here (NZ), so did my wife (French). One of our kids is working in the health sector and one is winning actual awards in the creative sector, both contributing maybe even more than we are to the UK. And we're not exactly doing nothing.

I miss him and I don’t think I ever met him. I just felt like the world was a slightly better place with him in it, based on nothing but his work and his online presence and the occasional interactions we had that way. I just felt like he was a real one.
