Still pretty wild that the Hobbit experience was so draining that Jackson went into semi-retirement.

There was a private middle school near where I grew up that had tackle intramural teams but they didn't use masks, feeling that the players would naturally avoid headhunting.

I’d love a prestige TV take on Grant’s world tour after leaving office, where he met every famous person of the era. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_t...

The anti-vax stuff made him relevant in a way that he was never going to be as an environmental lawyer. The drug arrests meant that he couldn’t realistically get involved in the family business, so he had to find another way in.

The first was the basically the unicorn of unicorns, a hard mil sci-fi show with broadcast tv budget. The second was the greatest sitcom of the 2010s, cruelly underrated.

Would be fun to see a movie take a similar approach these days. Knives Out could probably do it.

I was well into adulthood before leaning that the multiple endings were not part of the theatrical release.

In 1978, Chuck Fairbanks secretly accepted the Colorado job while coaching the New England Patriots, who were the 2 seed in the AFC. The owner, Billy Sullivan, suspended him for the regular season finale before reinstating him for the playoffs, where they were crushed by the Oilers.

This guy has posted similar stuff with his parents before and they are so far gone it almost feels exploitive.

He’s really stuck because he made a bet that the economy would take off mostly due to his just being there and that he could just BS his way through any other bumps in the road. But Epstein and inflation are exactly the kind of thing that breaks through to people who don’t pay attention to politics.

I think you’ll get a lot of people who’ll hand wave and just say Harris would have been worse without even attempting to back that up.

One of the lingering effects of the PED era is that people became inured to the idea of a normal career arc where most players decline as they hit their mid-30s. A move to 1B might have arrested this for Utley if not for Howard.

With the right approach, you can work around an older actor pretty well. Harrison Ford made a decent Indiana Jones movie at 79. But the audience do this just isn’t there.

If he and Belichick should have retired after the last championship both their reputations would be largely intact, having made their last stand against Mahomes and McVay, the best of the leagues new generation. I’m sure Brady would rather have his family intact rather than that last 8-9 season.

I mean, Rush Hour is as dead as a franchise can be. The last installment came out 18 years ago and made less money then its predecessor. Chan is 71 and mostly works in Asia. Tucker has only acted sporadically for the last 15 years or so. And Ratner has a Me Too list a mile long.

I think they’re also counting on getting a boost from a peace deal but with gas prices having normalized since the highs in ‘22-‘23 I don’t think they’ll see much movement, as with the Gaza deal.

There’s also the issue that neither the Gulf or Iraq lead to lower gas prices bsky.app/profile/hoya...
The Gulf, Iraq, and Ukraine saw pretty significant spikes that did eventually subside, but prices were still higher than prewar 12 months later.

“2030s LOTR remakes” feels cursed but at the same time, Tom Hiddleston playing Saruman would absolutely rip.
