I gave a talk on how I used traDIS to investigate the important genes for plasmid acceptance in bacteria. I was also very grateful to be awarded runner up for best oral presentation alongside @gabastorga.bsky.social 🎉

Last week I attended the ECR symposium on Microbial Genomics jointly organised by @microbesng.bsky.social, @norwichmicro.bsky.social and Get Genome.

I had the wonderful opportunity to present some of my PhD work @quadraminstitute.bsky.social

Promotional poster for the "Norwich Pop Up" event featuring Ho Yu Liu from the Quadram Institute as a speaker. The title of her talk is: “Exploring the essential genes for plasmid acceptance in E. coli and S. Typhimurium.” The poster includes a smiling photo of Ho Yu wearing glasses and a grey top. Behind her is an aerial view of the Norwich Research Park. Logos for "microbesNG PopUp ," the Centre for Microbial Interactions, The Sainsbury Laboratory, and GetGenome are displayed at the top left. A bold vertical pink text reads "SPEAKER" on the right side. The event is on 3 July at the John Innes Conference Centre. A registration link is provided: linktr.ee/microbesng.

Had a lovely time at @biofilms11 in Cardiff last week! Thank you to all who came and had a catch about my PhD work which is funded by @ukri.org BBSRC.

Take a look at the blog the comms team has put together where we chat more about the experience

Excited to be @escmid.bsky.social #escmidglobal2025 this week!

I'll be giving a talk on Tuesday morning about some of my PhD work @ukri.org @quadraminstitute.bsky.social on looking at the genes important for conjugation in bacteria 🧫

Please come chat about AMR, plasmids or biofilms with me 🎉

I had a lovely time at the @norwichmicro.bsky.social #CMINorwich25 conference last week.

I feel very lucky to be awarded the @naturemicrobiol.bsky.social people's choice runner up. Thank you to everyone who came to chat about my PhD #bbsrc and congratulations to all the other prize winners!

We don't have any papers on conjugation inhibitors just yet as most of my work has been focused on identifying what we might be able to target. But perhaps once we have that information, then inhibitors that act on those targets could be explored. Hope that helps!

Hi Craig! Sorry for the last reply - only just been catching up with bluesky today. I really enjoyed your talk on Thursday!

ECR talks at BSAC AMR! First, @hoyuliu.bsky.social is using tradis to find genes essential for plasmid acceptance in E. coli. Many fundamental metabolic genes- but also efflux pumps may affect plasmid uptake & stability via impact on OM structure. Lovely, important fundamental microbiology #MicroSky
