The increased cost is the main (possibly even the whole) point. The tech bro billionaires don't want you to be able to afford to own the means, they want to rent it to you, and at ever increasing costs. We shouldn't be investing in "AI", we should be trying to kill it.

Over this side of the country it only settled on the highest ground, but there was evidence of more nearer London when we went to Stansted earlier today.

Thanks for the heads-up. Pretty sure I got everything copied to DW a while back, but I suspect the posts archived across to DW that contain pictures in LJ's scrapbook will need work when LJ's scrapbook vanishes....

Ho hum. :/

I am very, very conscious of how it looks for me to be saying this, because I own and operate a direct competitor to LJ, but: I strongly suspect, from all these signals, that Sberbank is preparing to either sell the outside-Russia part of LJ if they can find a buyer, or shut it down if they can't.

Grabbed an eBook copy from Bad Dog Books this morning, and loved the title story. Thanks! :)

I'm pretty sure some (many? most?) folks carry around little plastic or wooden tokens for exactly this purpose. No idea where the ones we have came from, but they certainly work at our local supermarkets (though none of them's an ASDA).

Waaaay back when, a housemate's friend had a gerbil whose idea of heaven was, apparently, a roll of toilet paper. It could turn one into a pile of sherds in about 90 seconds, and then luxuriate in the fall-out...

Kid spent four days doing office stuff with others. Bored as hell.

ME: That's fine. We'll help you. Wanna try? Don't have to.
HIM: A real website?
ME: Yup. So think before you answer
HIM: yes
ME: Sweet. Let's go

We are fighting a losing battle against stupid.

And that's because we're led by a general who thinks out-stupiding stupid is the best strategy.

How's that working out for you Keir? Oh, record low polling and King Stupid on course to become Prime Minister? Who'da seen that coming?

Our media's reporting of trans issues is poisonous, unhinged, a betrayal by those who pretend to report impartially, and shamefully reminiscent of other hate propagandising throughout the last century. I'm surprised to see it in the UK but I need to learn that it is, since Brexit, just who we are.

It seems the first version mentioning "AI" on the "What's New" Changelog page is 8.11.1, but the latest version (8.16.2) has a bunch of new "AI" features. Is it possible there's an option that's turned off by default?

Pretty sunset. :)

We face the wrong way for good sunsets, but we sometimes get fine rainbows.

It would be interesting to know who is the source of this rumour, but I suspect that's buried under a pile of proxies and bot farms. :/
