Fiery, fiendish fun! 🔥😈 That's HELL'S BELLS (1929), where devils & demons dance & frolic in a chaotic underworld in classic Silly Symphonies style. 🎶

Apple and Google both provide support for offline speech-to-text using local models. Users can configure it to be fully offline.

The Murena Voice to Text service in /e/OS sends the user's audio to OpenAI which is hidden away in their terms of service:

Voice to Text feature using Open AI
As I was reading the Murena’s terms of use I discovered that the voice to text feature introduced with e/OS/ 3.0 is using the Open AI API. That means our voice is sent to Open AI so they can translate...

Just noticed that Goodreads changed their logo. It's nice looking, but that doesn't make me want to use LibraryThing or The StoryGraph any less though lol.

I appreciate the acknowledgment of a Department of Government Efficiency, even though I'm quite skeptical of it. But the real problem lies in getting rid of departments, not creating more of them.

Abolish the Department of Homeland Security
This might sound radical or extreme, but the US somehow managed to get along for more than 225 years before this department was created.

This attack was the equivalent to those anti oil terrorists who throw orange paint on works of art or architecture.

It accomplishes absolutely nothing aside from making normal people angry who'd otherwise be sympathetic towards your cause.
Latest update on the DDOS attack from Brewster Kahle (Oct 11 @ 10:22am PT):

"The data is safe.

Services are offline as we examine and strengthen them. Sorry, but needed. @internetarchive staff is working hard.

Estimated Timeline: days, not weeks.

Thank you for the offers of pizza (we are set)."

Update: not sure if using LibraryThing is viable as a social platform, but rather just a catalogue of your books and their editions.

Using the site for recommendations and lists is not really its focus and it's not intuitive for that. Unless you're a book collector, it doesn't make sense?
While I realize that Goodreads is by far the most popular site for book tracking and indexing, I find LibraryThing to be many times more helpful.

I'll be sure to transfer my entire To-Read list over there:

In the past week I've probably swatted at like five dozen spotted lanternflies around the house, but it's nowhere near effective enough at eliminating them.

Regular people have to be scavenging trees for masses of them, but people don't care THAT much.

Speaking of the search feature, it's kinda garbage right now. I noticed that the EFF has an account here during the account creation process, but I couldn't find their account using the search.

I hope it gets better...

Apparently tags are not a thing on this site, even though the account creation process tried to curate my potential follows based on interests. Then I wonder how finding content works on here not using the search feature...
