I don’t have a good answer for how we become less afraid of each other and less obsessed with the phones we use constantly. But I’m deeply concerned about what the next generations will be like without love and regret and failure and finding these things in real life and not online.

I still feel you guys are missing the macro of the argument. The popularity of OF (from female contribution and male consumption) is a SYMPTOM of something deeply wrong with our world. Yes, Scott is a sexist, but he has diagnosed the disease correctly.

I think women seek sex work in general because of a lack of social safety net or opportunity that would yield something better. Sex work is brutal and soul rendering, even if it’s digital.

Scott appears to be concerned that we are losing anything similar to human relations. The frictionless is a problem. Life has friction. Bars -> Tinder -> Onlyfans -> AI Chat
The end point of this is that we lose our humanity, love, and connection to profiteering. I think in this point he’s right.

Galloway’s pointing at women is dogshit. However the premise of the piece that men and women going to this soulless place of transaction is a very real issue as we lose our humanity.

Sure, but you can’t also view OF as an output of a society that has lost its bearings? That loneliness, sexwork prevalence, and lack of connection are net bad things.

I often think about @byyourlogic.bsky.social’s exploration on how lonely this life is nowadays. I think Scott is exploring the same idea. I think OF is a very sad place. Very similar to a strip club.

You referenced this part of the piece and I read it completely differently. I saw this as a statement on how few opportunities this country has for people, and increasingly women. I didn’t view it as blame. Again the thesis of the piece is that OF is a symptom, of the disease.

I agree, it’s not a reason but it is a symptom of a world that is becoming increasingly online and less connected in human ways and that’s the whole premise. Symptoms and diseases are different things!

I think you guys are being too hard on Galloway here. His argument in the article is correct. This world is becoming increasingly online. The premise of soul crushing sexwork or paying for “frictionless” interaction is becoming the norm and that means things in society are breaking down.
