I know, one poll, it's FON who over-egg RFM, 4 years to go & lots can happen etc. But what if economy stays crap, no Falklands event & it stays like this? What can Labour do to prevent a RFM majority? Voting system changes, electoral pacts? How long would that take to set up? Start thinking about it
hughster.bsky.social
Yeah, an outright RFM maj would make me think about deporting myself

At school I lent a game to a friend and he never gave it back. Got teachers/parents involved but no dice. Never forgave him. 20 years later he added me on FB and the first thing he said was "I'm so sorry about the game, I'd lost it and didn't know how to tell you". We're still FB friends. Tell them.

The Tories losing a critical mass of Conservative Clubs would be a pretty sure sign they're finished I think
bethcooper.fyi
Sign of the times? Orpington Conservative Club has a new sign outside. It is navy blue with gold writing and says 'private members club' with a list of facilities include Sky Sports. Nowhere does it say Conservative, and the only indication is if you know the tree is that of the Conservative Party.

Is it simply to do with gym culture? Loads of pieces/pods on GenZers socialising more at gyms than pubs

Unhappily reminded that the EU parliament can and does make utterly stupid lobby-driven decisions that would rarely get through a national parliament

The European Parliament voted today to ban plant-based and lab-grown products from having meat-related names such as “burger,” “sausage” or “steak” on their labels.
EU lawmakers back ‘veggie burger’ ban
The European Parliament slips prohibition of plant-based “burgers” into wider farm reform, sparking NGO outrage and political splits.

Around 2018, every single Labour councillor with racist social posts was rightly splashed across the entire right-wing press, enough to keep the story rolling continuously. (I should know—I helped find some of them.) Reform are easily surpassing the rate and severity, but with absolutely no coverage

Real talk: Trump isn't going to allow the midterms to go against him

Pritzker: "He wants to militarize major cities because he wants us to get used to the idea of troops on the streets. I believe he's gonna post people outside of polling places and if he needs to in order to control those elections, he'll assume control of the ballot boxes & count the votes himself"

Jenrick was not slapped down hard and so all the racists now feel suitably emboldened to say out loud what they've thought for years

It’s quite a feat for Isabel Oakeshott to be the only white person in a London tube carriage given she lives in Dubai

Where's the option for "never close any until your computer physically runs out of memory"

More people really do need to use the "detach quote" option until the dunkers stop wasting their time

Indeed. I'd agree with all the points made but they don't appear to cover reason for arrest. Prima facie it was because this man was holding a magazine up with pro-PA words on the cover, surely an absurdity if the magazine was legal to sell; if there were further offences not shown, what were they?

This is great. It could've helped seal the deal in many cases to have mentioned the fact that any candidates who don't support ECHR withdrawal will be blocked at next election, so their days left of being welcome in the party are numbered anyway
In an interview with The Camilla Tominey Show on GB News, she said: “I was very clear at the shadow cabinet where we agreed completely, it was unanimous, that we cannot have a party where people do not abide by manifesto commitments.
“If you do not agree with leaving the ECHR, then you should not and cannot stand as a Conservative candidate at the next election. They can be in the party but they cannot stand as MPs.”

Plus, of course, the decades-old far-right terminology of "third worlders". Not even lightly dressed up.
hughster.bsky.social
This is staggeringly racist nonsense.

Would you care to name some of these claimed "third-world enclaves" so we can see where and whom you're talking about?

No, it's not. It's all a lie. The blunt truth is across the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them.

Outstanding piece by Stephen Daisley.

Ethnicity is no barrier to Britishness - it's culture and integration.

That means 'smaller cohorts and aggressive integration policies' - and tackling the institutions that 'have amplified grievance narratives and radical anti-Western ideologies'.

Ah, thanks. They won't let me have Win11 as they decided not to support my CPU for some stupid reason, even though it was top spec a decade ago and is still blisteringly fast
