We were deeply saddened to hear of the recent death of renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, but grateful when we heard that, before she died, she had recorded her last words to share with humanity, in collaboration with Netflix. Her final message is one that deeply resonates with humanist beliefs

This opens up possibilities for super-precise medical imaging, monitoring disease, maybe even tracking how cells behave inside the body in real time.

These kinds of breakthroughs show what happens when science, ethics, & ingenuity come together.

The happiest of Mondays, everybody!

Science recently made a big leap forward, reminding us how incredible human curiosity and reason are.

🚀 The University of Chicago has created a “fluorescent biological qubit” — basically turning certain proteins in living cells into quantum sensors.

A timely reminder that Christian #nationalism isn’t about faith, it’s about power.

📖 They hold up bibles for the cameras.
⚖️ They push Ten Commandments displays into classrooms.
💸 Meanwhile, they pass laws that punish the poor and divide communities.

This isn’t piety, it’s politics in disguise.

He championed reason, science, and ethics as the best tools we have to solve human problems and build a better future. 🌍

From robots and galaxies to human rights and equality, Asimov showed that imagination + humanism = endless possibility. 🚀

"When I raised my concerns with the headteacher, they replied: 'I will not apologise, this is a Christian country."

On Monday, our CEO gave evidence to Holyrood's Equalities Committee about the fact that all state schools in Scotland are required to provide compulsory acts of religious observance.

Christian nationalism isn’t just an American problem anymore.

Polly Toynbee warns of the dangerous mix of religion and far-right politics creeping into our public life. With the majority of people in Scotland identifying as non-religious, it’s vital we don’t let misrepresented dogma be weaponised.

📢 Right now, Scottish pupils can only skip religious observance in school if their parents sign them out, even if they’re old enough to decide for themselves.

🚸 Many parents don’t realise that in Scotland, non-denominational does not mean non-religious. Non-denominational just means a school is not formally linked to a specific church.
Here’s our CEO Fraser Sutherland explaining more at today’s Equalities Committee hearing at Holyrood 👇

Thank you Emma Roddick for addressing this issue. The bill in its current form is unequal - children would be able to opt into religious observance against the wishes of their parents but not to opt out. The response from the cabinet secretary does not seem to accept this.

This week's #HumanistHero is Kurt Vonnegut. The humanist author gave some excellent advice in his famous 2006 letter to a high school class. “Practice any art…not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming" 🙌

✝️ Trump loves to call himself a Christian, but in a recent speech he flat-out mocked one of Jesus’s core teachings, namely, "love thy enemies." Speaking at Charlie Kirk's memorial he proclaimed: "I hate my opponent(s), and I don’t want the best for them." Hard to imagine a bigger contradiction
