The desire to attain heaven means that if we act for others, we are secretly acting for ourselves. It is better to do good, without belief in heaven.

The story of a great flood was common in #Mesopotamia from when the Black Sea first filling with water from the Med, drowning & displacing untold numbers. The story first written in the 3rd millennium BCE passed from culture to culture over its 5000yr history, gradually changing.

ch5.2: There was no global flood: 1. The flow of life has remained undisrupted, 2. no layer of fossils, 3. tribes settled in the world's continents & islands weren't wiped out, 4. no genetic convergence of all each species to 2 ancestors, 5. no genetic evidence of a subsequent period of mass incest.

But there's never been a global #flood since animal life began. It portrays God not as infallible & all-knowing, but one that tries things out & makes imperfect decisions (Gen. 6:6). This contradicts most people's idea of #God. And with its poor morals, it is a hindrance to spiritual development.

A copy of the Flood is told in the Bible, #Genesis chapters 6-8. The moral is: if you regret your relations with a people, you can murder them all, innocent & guilty alike, and start anew (Genesis 6:7,17), forcing all species to commit incest for many generations, forever damaging their gene pools).

When #Iceland resumed #whaling in 2005 and announced permits for 500 kills, the outcry from the International Whaling Commission, the #USA (that had an environmentally-conscious Democratic government at the time), the EU and #Greenpeace, that Iceland reduced its permits to just 25 minke whales.

Iceland's permit numbers stems from a government announcement in Dec.

Specifically, because #Japan resumed hunting of those species, it is not importing whale meat, leading to the current pause in whaling in Iceland. This reveals that the weakness of the industry is DEMAND.

The Christian Church ran Ordeals of the Cross, of Boiling Water, of Red-Hot Iron & of Water. The overall results were disfiguration, cheating or a rigged test designed to produce the 'right' result. Overall, they were immoral, unreliable to the point of being random, and clearly injust.

The Bible describes only one example: Numbers 5:11-31 has God itself say adultery cases should be solved by Ordeal of Bitter Water. The woman must drink water mixed with ink, alongside ritual steps by the Priest. If she suffers from the water, she is guilty, else, she's allowed to live & conceive.

The Church provided a strict framework for the use of Ordeals, and with popular support and Christian King's endorsements, they were used for secular purposes, in a world with no separation between legal systems, religion and the state.

Added to the commentary on table 6.6 on the linked page, on meat-consumption rates, along with a description as to why environmentalists argue that #vegetarianism is better for the environment than mean consumption.
