Taking a break from researching the past to enjoy the present with a glorious morning out on the water with Marine Discovery Penzance. #cornwall #dolphins

Research for a client has just revealed an ancestor who worked as a steam navvy driver, which was a new one on me. Looked it up and found this great footage of one in action. A lovely way to bring family history to life. player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/wa...

Had the pleasure of unrolling this beautiful pedigree this afternoon. Mid-18thC with heraldic painting as good as new.

Had a chance to visit Kerdroya the Cornish hedge labyrinth by Golden Tree Productions on Bodmin moor and loved the variety of textures, colours and construction.

Which date chronologically comes first? Registration must postdate event so that would narrow the possibilities.

I came across a similar calculation next to a parish register bapt entry, and now need to work out the significance of the later date - could be a clue to date of marriage or death.

Just booked my place at the Secret and Lies #FamilyHistory conference in Sept. So looking forward to it as the previous event was really good. #Genealogy @agragenealogy.bsky.social

Just stumbled upon this great 1937 film showing how one used to get birth certs. Well before my time, but do remember lugging those massive index volumes off the shelves at St Catherine’s House & Family Records Centre. #Geneaology #FamilyHistory @agragenealogy.bsky.social youtu.be/Q-B8DqKNq-4?...

Me too. The mass migration of Cornish husbands going abroad to work in the 19thC created some interesting challenges for the civil courts. I cover some cases in my book ‘The Married Widows of Cornwall’ but I think there is scope for more research on the topic.

I’ve always wondered about an 18thC warrant I came across while cataloguing that required the arrest of an couple of men, the second one being a John Doe.

I so agree with Dave. Why, just why?!

Another excellent video. I share your frustration. I really don’t understand why Ancestry & others can’t use the original archive structure & give the ref. I spend at lot of time searching for the cover image and cross checking the archive catalogue to be able to reference my research properly.

Very excited about this. I had the pleasure of speaking at Secret Lives and it was such a great conference all round. Love the themes chosen for 2025.

My favourite sources for getting lost in.

That’s useful as I have rather too many ancestors than I would like in the black and purple streets!

Congratulations. Looking forward to reading this in relation to the Cornish wives that I’m interested in.

Phew! Thought I was losing the plot and had created a bizarre profile!
