Nadeem Nani Wala alleges Dr Affan Qaiser behind arrest of YouTuber ‘Ducky Bhai’
ISLAMABAD: TikToker Nadeem Nani Wala has alleged that social media personality Dr Affan Qaiser was behind the arrest of YouTuber Saad ur Rehman, popularly known as “Ducky Bhai”. He said the arrest involved contacts and information that were passed to authorities through specific individuals. Speaking on a programme, Nadeem Nani Wala said that National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) officials offered him an alleged deal through Dr Affan Qaiser. He claimed that Qaiser provided information on the basis of which action was taken against Ducky Bhai and that this led to his arrest. He further alleged that Qaiser shared details of Ducky Bhai’s financial matters with NCCIA Additional Director Chaudhry Sarfaraz and created the impression that Ducky Bhai was the main financial beneficiary. He said that in this context alleged “deals” were also sent to Sistrology — a YouTube channel run by Iqra Kanwal and her sisters — as well as to himself. The TikToker said that he had evidence against Qaiser which would be made public at an appropriate time. He alleged that Qaiser used situations for personal benefit and presented matters in a religious context, and said strict action should be taken. He also alleged that Qaiser had previously run negative campaigns against several well-known Pakistani YouTubers to gain views on social media. The statements triggered renewed debate on social media about the case, with users awaiting possible legal developments and comments from authorities. HUM News English could not independently verify the allegations. Dr Affan Qaiser and the NCCIA did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Only performing employees will stay in PIA, says Arif Habib
KARACHI: Renowned businessman Arif Habib, who recently acquired a 75 per cent stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for Rs13.5 billion, said on Thursday that staff retention at the carrier will be based on performance as the airline will focus on profitability. “Only those who perform will remain in PIA,” Habib told reporters at a Pakistan Cricket Board inter-schools final in Karachi’s Naya Nazimabad district. Making PIA profitable was his “top priority”, he said. Habib said employees would be given job security but added that performance would determine future roles. He said PIA’s workforce had helped the airline become one of the world’s leading carriers in the past. He said that under the acquisition agreement the airline’s name cannot be changed. Habib said about 14 million Pakistanis live overseas and that, including their families in Pakistan, more than 70 million people are linked to international travel. He said that his consortium would seek to make PIA the preferred choice for Pakistanis, noting the airline’s role in Hajj and Umrah operations. Habib said promoting sports within PIA was also a priority, but the restoration of sports activities at the airline would take time. A consortium led by Arif Habib Group was earlier declared the highest bidder in the privatisation process. Fauji Fertiliser Company later decided to join the winning consortium, Habib said, adding that discussions were under way on the terms of participation. FFC had initially been among four prospective bidders for the PIA stake but withdrew before the submission of final bids. Under Pakistan’s privatisation rules, firms that exit during bidding may later join the successful consortium if they meet eligibility criteria set by the Privatisation Commission. Major oil, gas reserves discovered in Nashpa Block, PM hails OGDCL
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the discovery of major oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and praised the work of the relevant institutions. A key meeting on the affairs of the Petroleum Division was held under the chairp of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) briefed participants on the roadmap for the petroleum and gas sector. Prime Minister Sharif congratulated the nation on the discovery of major oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block. Addressing the participants, the prime minister said that the discovery of new oil and gas reserves in the country should be among our top priorities so that the foreign exchange spent on importing petroleum products can be saved. The prime minister directed that the oil and gas supply chain—from import to end users—be digitised on a priority basis. He said that digitising the supply chain of oil and gas transmission would help curb smuggling of these products and benefit the national exchequer. The meeting was briefed that the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) had discovered major oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block in Kohat district. It was informed that 4,100 barrels of oil per day could be extracted from these reserves, and that domestic consumers were being provided gas this winter at better pressure compared to last year. The meeting was told that rapid work was under way on RLNG connections, and the target of 350,000 connections would be achieved by June 2026. Pipelines for the Shewa Gas Field and Bataani Gas Field have been commissioned, while work on the pipeline from Kot Palk gas field is ongoing. Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri box office collection Day 8: Film’s so far earning?
Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri continues to struggle at the domestic box office, showing weak performance in its second week. The Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday starrer collected an estimated ₹1 crore in India net on Day 8, taking its total eight-day India net collection to ₹30 crore. The romantic comedy earned close to $354 million in its first seven days, indicating minimal growth on the eighth day. On Thursday, January 1, 2026, the film recorded an overall 23 per cent Hindi occupancy. Morning shows saw 9 per cent occupancy, while afternoon shows performed slightly better at 37 per cent. However, evening and night shows registered virtually zero occupancy, highlighting extremely weak weekday footfalls. Day-wise India Net Collection: Total 8 Days India Net Collection: $36.94 million Day 8 figures are live estimates and subject to final updates. After eight days, the film’s India net stands at ₹30 crore, while India gross, overseas, and worldwide collections are yet to be officially reported. Based on current industry trends, the film is expected to premiere on OTT within six to eight weeks of its theatrical release. The tentative digital release window is expected to fall between February 5 and February 19, 2026, though official confirmation from the makers and the streaming platform is still awaited. Small traders term 2025 worst year for business, investment and jobs
KARACHI: Small traders have declared calendar year 2025 as the worst year in history in terms of business, investment, unemployment and inflation. They said that in 2025, commercial activity remained below even 60 per cent, political instability triggered an economic crisis, pessimism about the future and uncertainty shattered investor confidence in the local market, and no new commercial or industrial units could be established. According to a report compiled by All Karachi Traders Alliance chief Atiq Mir, 2025 remained a year of shutter-down. The closure of countless industries and businesses led to a horrific rise in unemployment, while the trend of capital flight accelerated. “Relentless, terrifying and unbearable inflation turned 2025 into a nightmare for the poor and middle class,” it said. “Those who claimed to save the country from bankruptcy could not save industry and trade from going bankrupt. The performance of public sector institutions in 2025 remained abysmal, and rulers, mired in short-sightedness and negligence, undertook 35 foreign trips in the name of attracting investment. However, not a single penny came in; instead, local capital continued to move abroad,” the report said. It said that no serious effort or strategy to pull the country out of economic crisis was visible, and even in 2026 there appears to be no hope in sight for an end to difficulties or any improvement. The report stated that due to heavy taxation, unbearable prices of electricity, gas, petrol and the dollar, and the failure to curb artificial inflation, the economy kept declining and essential commodities moved out of the reach of the poor and middle class. Even during any sales season, it said, traditional hustle and bustle and shopping activity could not be seen in markets. “Instead of taking concrete measures to reduce inflation and revive the economy, the rulers continued to appease the public with artificial and misleading indicators. The stock market was at record highs, while trade remained at rock-bottom levels.” Atiq Mir said that the prices of pulses, ghee, milk, meat, vegetables and essential commodities continued to rise on a daily basis. He said that Karachi, the economic hub, completely turned into a city controlled by mafias. “Traders and industrialists remained under threat from extortionists, and the city of 40 million people suffered unbearable inflation, unemployment, encroachments, illegal land grabbing, chaotic traffic, water crisis, insecurity, lawlessness and agonising municipal problems,” he said. Pakistan, India exchange list of nuclear facilities, prisoners; amid continued IWT issues
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India have completed their biannual exchange of nuclear facility and prisoner lists, continuing a longstanding practice under agreements signed decades ago. Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi confirmed during the weekly press briefing that Islamabad handed over its list of nuclear installations to the Indian High Commission, while India reciprocated by sharing details of its nuclear facilities with the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. “This exchange is part of the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities, signed on December 31, 1988, which came into effect on January 27, 1991. Since 1992, both sides have shared nuclear facility lists annually on the first day of the year,” Andrabi explained. In addition to nuclear sites, Pakistan and India also exchanged prisoner lists under the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access, which mandates sharing such lists on January 1 and July 1 each year. “The Indian government has provided the list of Pakistani prisoners in their custody, and Pakistan has shared its list with the Indian High Commission,” Andrabi added. ## WATER CONCERNS AND TREATY COMPLIANCE Responding to questions about India’s approval of the 260-megawatt Dulhasti Stage-II hydropower project on the Chenab River in India-administered Jammu and Kashmir, Andrabi said the move raised serious concerns under the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). “The IWT allows India a restricted use of western rivers for hydropower, but such projects require prior notification and strict adherence to design and operational norms. Pakistan has requested detailed technical information from India to determine whether this constitutes a new project, modification, or expansion of an existing plant,” he said. Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s stance, “While we remain committed to peaceful resolution of disputes, we will never compromise on our legitimate water rights. India must return to full treaty compliance.” ## REGIONAL DIPLOMACY AND GLOBAL ISSUES The spokesperson also highlighted Pakistan’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia over the situation in Yemen and reaffirmed support for Somalia’s sovereignty following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland. Andrabi also noted that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar discussed bilateral relations with the Governor of Tabuk, the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, and the Somali Foreign Minister, and will soon participate in the Pak-China Strategic Dialogue. On China and Taiwan, Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s “consistent support for China in all core interests, including Taiwan,” urging countries to avoid actions that could heighten regional tensions. ## ASSISTANCE TO PAKISTANIS IN AFGHANISTAN Andrabi shared that more than 1,100 Pakistani nationals have contacted the embassy in Kabul after the closure of the border. “Fifteen students and 291 individuals have safely returned so far, and our mission remains in contact with Afghan authorities to facilitate the return of others,” he said. The Foreign Office spokesperson also noted that Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq attended the funeral prayers of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, offering condolences to her family while engaging with the Bangladeshi National Security Advisor. After controversial Punjab visit, CM Sohail Afridi will now tour Sindh next week
PESHAWAR: Political activity is heating up as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has officially announced a visit to Sindh on January 9. The trip comes in the wake of a highly scrutinised and controversial Punjab visit in late December, which drew both criticism and attention from the national media. According to sources, Afridi will tour multiple cities in Sindh, participating in public gatherings and party-organised events. Observers suggest that the visit is closely linked to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) ongoing street mobilisation and contact campaign, which has been intensifying in various regions of the country. Party leaders are expecting significant public engagement during the Sindh trip. Afridi’s Punjab visit had already sparked debate across political circles. During his earlier trip, he attempted to hold a high-profile rally at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore, a move widely interpreted as a show of PTI’s continued influence in the province despite claims of dwindling support. Police restrictions prevented Afridi from delivering his planned address, and access to key areas was heavily controlled, highlighting the tense political environment. During the Punjab visit, Afridi also met families of incarcerated PTI leaders, including former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid. Afridi criticized the Punjab government’s denying him entry to Kot Lakhpat Jail and for ignoring his requests to meet jailed party members. The aftermath of the Punjab visit also saw formal inquiry proceedings. The Punjab Assembly, led by Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan, presented a report on the disorder that occurred during Afridi’s visit to the assembly. The report described “immature behavior” by individuals of Afridi’s delegation, acts of vandalism, and inappropriate conduct, including violations at the entrance gate and encirclement of assembly members. The Speaker stressed that proper permission and security protocols are mandatory and condemned abusive language directed at Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz. While the Assembly affirmed Afridi’s visit was welcome, the report highlighted the need to identify those responsible for the disruptive behavior. Political analysts suggest that Afridi’s Sindh visit could carry similar significance. By engaging with party supporters and coordinating street-level mobilisation, PTI aims to reinforce its presence in a province where the party faces tough competition. Official details regarding the Sindh tour, including the cities to be visited and the schedule of public events, are expected to be released by Afridi’s office in the coming days. Former Punjab CM Hanif Ramay remembered on his 20th death anniversary
The 20th death anniversary of Muhammad Hanif Ramay, a distinguished politician, intellectual, journalist, and artist, is being observed today across Pakistan. Born in 1930, Hanif Ramay emerged as a multifaceted personality who left a lasting imprint on the country’s political, cultural, and intellectual landscape. He played a key role in public life during the 1970s, serving as Punjab’s Finance Minister from 1972 to 1973, Governor of Punjab from February 1973 to March 1974, and Chief Minister of Punjab from March 15, 1974, to July 15, 1975 under the leadership of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. A founding member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Ramay was a strong advocate of Islamic socialism, seeking to blend egalitarian principles with Islamic values. He later parted ways with the PPP and formed his own political platform, the Mussawat Party, while also serving in roles such as Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. Beyond politics, Hanif Ramay was widely respected for his contributions to journalism, literature, and the arts. He founded the left-leaning newspaper Masawaat and edited Swera Digest, using both platforms to promote social justice and progressive thought. As an artist, he gained recognition for his innovative calligraphic paintings and maintained a close association with the Lahore Museum. An accomplished scholar, Ramay studied at Government College Lahore and Punjab University, earning master’s degrees in Economics and Philosophy. He later spent time in academia abroad, including an association with the University of California, Berkeley in the early 1980s. Among his literary works, _Punjab Ka Muqaddama_ [The case for Punjab] remains particularly influential for its exploration of Punjab’s history, identity, and political consciousness. Hanif Ramay passed away on January 1, 2006, in Lahore after a prolonged illness. Two decades on, he is remembered as a rare blend of politician and thinker whose legacy continues to resonate in Pakistan’s political discourse and cultural heritage. France plans ban on social media for under-15s
PARIS: France is considering a ban on social media use for children under the age of 15 and a prohibition on mobile phones in high schools from September 2026, local media reported on Wednesday, amid growing concern over the impact of online content on minors. According to French daily Le Monde, President Emmanuel Macron is likely to unveil the measures in his New Year’s address. Draft legislation for the new restrictions is expected to be submitted in early January. Macron has repeatedly linked social media platforms to rising violence among young people and has indicated that he wants France to follow Australia, which recently enforced a world-first ban on social media access for under-16s, including on Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube. Mobile phones are already banned in French primary and middle schools under legislation introduced in 2018. The proposed changes would extend this ban to high schools. France last year also passed a law requiring social media platforms to obtain parental consent before under-15s can create accounts. However, authorities have faced technical difficulties in ensuring compliance. Macron has also called for stronger regulation at the European Union level to restrict minors’ access to social media. The European Parliament in November urged common age limits across the bloc to address growing mental health concerns linked to excessive screen time, though final authority rests with individual member states. The reported measures come as Macron faces significant domestic political challenges following last year’s parliamentary stalemate. However, opinion polls suggest that tougher controls on children’s social media use remain broadly popular with the French public. PTCL formally takes over Telenor operations
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) has officially taken over the operations of Telenor Pakistan. PTCL President and CEO Hatem Bamtaraf said during the ceremony that Telenor is now part of PTCL. He called the acquisition a significant milestone for the PTCL and Pakistan’s telecom sector, adding that the company will focus on providing seamless, high-quality services to customers. The move marks the beginning of a new era of digital and transformative change in Pakistan following PTCL’s official takeover of Telenor Pakistan. Earlier in October, the Competition Commission of Pakistan had approved PTCL’s acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers shareholdings. As a result of the acquisition deal, PTCL’s subsidiary Ufone has now merged with Telenor mobile carrier service. In addition to cutting down one major player from the telecom sector, this merger also has some broader impacts for the telecom customers in the country. Firstly, with Ufone absorbing Telenor’s entire infrastructure, spectrum assets, and customer base, this consolidation has created a new telecom heavyweight which now commands approximately one-third of the entire market, 32.8 per cent to be exact. Jazz still leads with an estimated 43 per cent share, but this merger has now significantly closed what used to be a substantial gap between Jazz and other players in the market. Shaheen Chowk underpass opens to traffic ahead of New Year

Sydney welcomes New Year with tribute to Bondi attack victims
SYDNEY: Sydney ushered in 2026 with its spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks, held under heightened security, weeks after a mass shooting at a Jewish Hanukkah event claimed 15 lives. The city’s iconic celebrations featured 40,000 pyrotechnic effects stretching over seven kilometres across the Harbour, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House. At 11:00 p.m. local time, organisers held a minute of silence for the victims, with the Harbour Bridge illuminated in white and a menorah projected onto its pylons. Lord Mayor Clover Moore said ahead of the event: “After a tragic end to the year for our city, we hope that New Year’s Eve will provide an opportunity to come together and look with hope for a peaceful and happy 2026.” The father-and-son gunmen allegedly carried out the attack on December 14, Australia’s deadliest mass shooting in almost 30 years. The tragedy shook the nation and raised concerns about rising antisemitism. Traditional Christmas celebrations at Bondi were subdued this year, and several planned New Year events there were cancelled. Around 3,000 police personnel, some armed with long guns, were deployed across the city to manage the crowds, which normally attract over a million revelers. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns said: “We have to show defiance in the face of this terrible crime and say that we're not going to be cowed by this kind of terrorism, and we're not going to change the way we live our life in our beautiful city.” Sydney’s celebrations marked the start of 2026 with a mix of remembrance, resilience and hope, reflecting the city’s determination to maintain its festive spirit despite recent tragedy. World bids farewell to 2025 amid turmoil, truce and tariffs
SYDNEY/NEW YORK: New Year's Eve revellers toasted the end of 2025 on Wednesday, waving goodbye to 12 months packed with Trump tariffs, a fragile Gaza truce, vain hopes for peace in Ukraine and extreme weather. In Sydney, Australia — often called the “New Year’s capital of the world” — hundreds of thousands gathered along the harbour to witness fireworks over the Sydney Opera House. A minute of silence will be observed at 11:00 pm (1200 GMT) in remembrance of the 15 people killed in a mass shooting at Bondi Beach earlier this month. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a video message: “Right now, the joy that we usually feel at the start of a new year is tempered by the sadness of the old.” Security was heightened, with heavily armed police patrolling crowds. Pacific nations including Kiribati and New Zealand were the first to ring in 2026, kicking off celebrations that will stretch across the globe to New York, Brazil’s Copacabana Beach, and Scotland’s Hogmanay festival. In Hong Kong, fireworks over Victoria Harbour were cancelled in tribute to 161 people who died in a housing estate fire in November. Global headlines of 2025 included Trump’s tariff blitz that roiled markets, the death of pioneering zoologist Jane Goodall, the Vatican’s selection of a new pope, and a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after two years of devastating conflict in Gaza. Gaza City resident Shireen Al-Kayali reflected on the year: “We lost a lot of people and our possessions. We lived a difficult and harsh life, displaced from one city to another, under bombardment and in terror.” The war in Ukraine, triggered by Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, continues with no ceasefire, while China’s Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin exchanged New Year greetings, signalling ongoing diplomatic engagement. Looking ahead to 2026, the world anticipates sporting spectacles including the Winter Olympics in Italy and the biggest football World Cup across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Gold price falls in Pakistan for the third consecutive day
KARACHI: Gold prices in Pakistan extended declines for a third straight session on Wednesday, tracking weaker international bullion markets and profit-taking after earlier gains, traders said. The price of 24-karat gold per tola fell by Rs2,500, bringing the new rate to Rs456,962, according to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association. The price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold dropped by Rs2,143 to Rs391,771. Silver prices also eased, with the price per tola falling by Rs212 to Rs7,718. Domestic bullion markets have seen an aggregate decline of about Rs18,700 per tola over the past three days, following a sharp drop on Tuesday. On that day, gold prices fell by more than Rs10,000 per tola as global rates weakened sharply. In global markets, the price of gold eased by about $25 an ounce to $4,346 per ounce, reflecting subdued demand and profit-booking after a strong rally earlier in the year. Despite the recent downturn, gold has been one of the best-performing assets in Pakistan in 2025, with prices more than doubling from levels seen at the start of the year. A report by Topline Securities showed 10 grams of gold climbed from around Rs233,000 at the beginning of the year to over Rs400,000 by December, while global bullion also surged. The drop in precious metal prices locally follows broader international trends, where traders pointed to shifts in global economic data, currency movements and repositioning of portfolios ahead of the new year. Indo-Pak leaders meet in Dhaka, first since armed conflict in May
DHAKA: Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Dhaka, marking the first high-level face-to-face interaction between leaders of India and Pakistan since the armed conflict in May. The brief but notable meeting took place at the residence of former Bangladeshi prime minister Khaleda Zia, on the sidelines of her funeral-related events. According to sources present, the Indian foreign minister personally walked up to Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, shook his hand and exchanged greetings. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq responded warmly, and both leaders inquired about each other’s well-being during a short conversation. Pleasantries and welcome remarks were exchanged, with the interaction drawing attention due to its timing and symbolism amid strained bilateral relations following the recent military escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. While no formal talks were held and the exchange remained brief, the encounter is being viewed as a rare moment of direct engagement between Indian and Pakistani leadership at a senior level after months of heightened tensions. The meeting took place in the presence of international dignitaries attending events linked to the passing of former Bangladeshi prime minister Khaleda Zia, providing a neutral setting for the interaction. Observers note that although informal, the meeting underscores the importance of diplomatic channels and dialogue, even during periods of regional strain. Rajab Butt City Courts case: fresh FIR filed against lawyers over alleged assault
WEB DESK: A new police case has been registered against several lawyers for allegedly attacking a station house officer (SHO) at the City Courts police station, days after YouTuber Rajab Butt was reportedly manhandled during a court appearance in Karachi. Police said the latest first information report (FIR) was lodged on the complaint of City Courts SHO Jahangir Bhutto, who accused a group of lawyers of storming the police station, creating chaos and physically assaulting him after an earlier case was registered against them over the alleged attack on Butt. Earlier an FIR was filed against Advocate Riaz Ali Solangi, Advocate Abdul Fatah Chandio and 15 to 20 unidentified lawyers for allegedly assaulting Rajab Butt inside the Karachi sessions court when he appeared in connection with a case. The YouTuber was accompanied by fellow content creator Nadeem Mubarak, popularly known as Nani Wala, at the time. According to the SHO’s complaint, around 40 to 50 lawyers, allegedly led by Chandio, Solangi and Advocate Abdul Wahab Rajper, forced their way into a temporary police setup inside the City Courts on December 30. The SHO said he was informed while on patrol that the group was demanding the registration of a counter-case against Butt and his counsel. The FIR states that when the SHO reached the police station around 2pm and explained that a case had already been registered according to law, the lawyers allegedly began hurling abuses before physically attacking him. He claimed police staff intervened to rescue him, after which the lawyers left the premises while chanting slogans and issuing death threats. The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including provisions related to rioting, criminal intimidation, obstructing a public servant and assault to deter a public official from performing official duties. Three lawyers have been nominated by name, along with 40 to 50 unidentified individuals. Separately, Rajab Butt’s lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq, has accused Solangi, Chandio and other lawyers of attacking his client near the West Building of the City Courts when Butt arrived to seek bail. He alleged that Butt sustained injuries during the assault and that a bag containing Rs300,000 was snatched, with the cash later found missing even though the bag was returned. Advocate Solangi, meanwhile, has claimed the incident followed a vlog posted by Butt after obtaining pre-arrest bail earlier this month, in which he allegedly used offensive language against lawyers. He has said the matter was later defused after Butt apologised before members of the legal community. Police said investigations into both cases are under way. Aydan Nix opens up about her bond with Gigi and Bella Hadid
Aydan Nix has shared new insight into her relationship with Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid, months after learning they share the same biological father. In an essay published by _The Cut_ on December 30, the 23-year-old reflected on what it has been like building a connection with the Hadid family after discovering through a genetic test in 2023 that Mohamed Hadid is her father. Gigi and Bella publicly confirmed the news earlier this year. Nix described her half-sisters and extended family as welcoming and supportive, writing that they “made space” for her during a period of major personal adjustment. She emphasised that their warmth was offered without expectation, noting that the bond has developed gradually rather than instantly. The essay also details how her relationship with the Hadids helped her reconnect with their shared Palestinian heritage. Nix wrote that Alana Hadid shared reading material with her, while Anwar Hadid introduced her to films exploring Palestinian identity. She added that Gigi took her for her first Palestinian meal and taught her the names of different dishes. Despite joining one of fashion’s most recognisable families, Nix was clear that her life has remained largely unchanged. Raised in Florida, she continues to live in a small East Village apartment and works as a freelance wardrobe stylist, often behind the scenes at fashion events. She noted that even during high-profile moments such as the Met Gala, she is working long hours rather than attending as a guest. Nix also reflected on the emotional complexity of redefining family later in life. She wrote about processing the loss of the father who raised her, as well as rethinking her understanding of sibling relationships after learning that the sister she grew up with does not share her DNA. While the discovery reshaped her sense of identity, she stressed that it did not diminish the family bonds she already had. “Despite a couple of extra eyes on me, my life is still my own,” she wrote, adding that she is focused on living for herself rather than fulfilling expectations tied to her famous last name.
