Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid are now entering their 6th season together.

The trio has grown a real bond, and epitomize the new era of Wolves hoops. Although now there is 407.5M committed to them, and they must continue their upward trajectory.

Fantastic help steal from TJ Shannon, great read and vision.

Trio of rough 3Q drives from Rob Dillingham.

I am still a little hesitant on Jaylen Clark's offensive impact, but if he can find ways to do small things like this...

Small cut into the open space to give Julius Randle an outlet, then going through multiple passing reads before finding Rudy Gobert.
hunchojman.bsky.social
Inverted Mike Conley flat screen for Anthony Edwards hmm.
hunchojman.bsky.social
Bald Rudy Gobert continues to do *things* offensively?
hunchojman.bsky.social
Love the concept of a TJ Shannon x Naz Reid early offense two-man game on the empty side.

The Reid - Shannon hand-off can create enough trouble. Switch for a Naz post-up, Naz keeper, Shannon going to his left, among options.

or like here, simple PnR, Naz showing the float game.

The reset handoff to Ant is fine, but Rob Dillingham needs to be more dynamic off the advantage here.

The clear issue is his lack of height, limiting his driving ability, but the pull-up was probably there. A big advantage created by DiVincenzo that feels squandered.

Anthony Edwards PnR splits make me happy.
hunchojman.bsky.social
Pass placement could have been better, but Anthony Edwards finding Rudy Gobert here against the aggressive Jay Huff hedge off the empty side PnR was a really good find.

If you showed this read to a Wolves follower a couple of years ago they would be overjoyed.

I am not going to overreact because its pre-season, but those Wolves pair of early inbound TO's because they had no clue what to do against the Pacers' full-court pressure irked me.
hunchojman.bsky.social
alright, let's catch up on some Wolves vs Pacers pre-season hoops from earlier tonight
hunchojman.bsky.social
At the same time, how many bigs are creating an advantage here on this delay back cut look lol. That is such an absurd find from Jokic, something that is just normal at this point.
hunchojman.bsky.social
NBA defense is so difficult, even in pre-season.

Just one slight second of hesitation from Shannon, and Christian Braun has a window. Still a fantastic recovery from TJ despite the hesitation, and great recovery from the Wolves defense after the Cam Johnson back cut, but man.
hunchojman.bsky.social
Very minor detail here, but given the growing pains we saw with D'Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards finding the optimal bounce pass height on PnR's with Rudy Gobert...

It was nice to see this clean feed from Bones Hyland.

This was my favorite action the Lynx and Cheryl Reeve ran for Natisha Hiedeman.

We saw it in pre-season G1 from the Wolves for Bones Hyland.

Well-positioned by Denver. Murray in low help. Cam Johnson covering both skips, Gordon up top. Braun right there, but a strong finish.
hunchojman.bsky.social
It is important to recognize that Jokic was a god damn statue defensively this game, but it also good to credit when Rob can be decisive and quick with his decisions.
hunchojman.bsky.social
One aspect I remain intrigued with Rob Dillingham is his potential to be an advantage exploiter a pass away with his quickness and playmaking chops.

The second side ability can help supplant any on-ball issues. Slight off-ball movement here reminded me a tad of his usage at UK.

Bones Hyland vs Denver

18 PTS | 5/8 FG | 3/4 3P | 5/6 FT in 22 mins

Impressive showing as he fights for back-end of the rotation minutes.
hunchojman.bsky.social
Rob Dillingham snake PnR pull-up.
hunchojman.bsky.social
1v1 defense has not been great from Joan Beringer.

Team defender Joan Beringer has been very interesting though.

Bones Hyland, I am intrigued.

It is a lofty comp bc Amen/Giannis has the athleticism and passing advantage, but it reminds me of them with how defenses cannot completely disregard TJ despite a shakier shot because of the threat he poses downhill with space to work with.
hunchojman.bsky.social
Good example of that here.

TJ is just shot out of a cannon off the catch. Bad defense from Peyton Watson, but TJ's explosiveness gives him enough to where defenses cannot sag off because him with a head of steam is dangerous.

Also good Beringer OREB.
hunchojman.bsky.social
Impressive sequence from Joan Beringer to open the 2H.

First, fighting over the Bruce Brown cross screen to disrupt the entry pass.

Then, high vertical contest against the drive.

Into running like a god damn gazelle up the floor, nice find from Rob Dillingham, for the dunk.

Yes it is preseason, but I am allowed to be excited about the Timberwolves having just one (1) turnover in the first half tonight vs Denver.
