Anecdata from running my own hiring processes but feels like we’re having a version of the college app phenomenon for entry and early career jobs - net similar number of seats and candidates but a vicious cycle of more applicants, lower acceptance / interview rates, driving more applicants

reminds me how the CA department of forestry renamed itself CALFIRE to ensure budgets were healthy, but the "greens" ran the department for years.
