InterRail definitely right for a trip like this, can’t wait to use it on Eurostar😉, but for seniors like me I would recommend meticulous planning and reserving. And finally. Only @ceskedrahyofficial.bsky.social serves draught Pilsner Urquell😀

No apologies for flying to Zurich, the price for @ceskedrahyofficial.bsky.social Canopus sleeper now is just crazy. And Zurich airport station is an excellent start point. Many direct IC services, or 8mins to Hbf if needed /5

Italy. Despite the impressive high speed trains, it remains prone to chaos. So you close the Milan-Verona corridor for weekend work? OK, but just tell people when they ask, weeks ahead. Some of the old IC stock is substandard now./4

🇨🇭 rail is the benchmark.
These Stadler Girunos connect Zurich and Milan hourly thru the new Gotthard Base tunnel. 22 coaches. 800 passengers. Only problem, Milan’s absurd narrow
platforms cannot cope. 10 mins
to unload /3

Most trains were *packed* even in 1st. Reserve, even if not compulsory. Americans, with luggage in abundance, but not e.g in todays RJX 860 to Vienna. /2

True.ČD PRG-Košice often quarter of price to Karlsruhe, same accom. and distance. But thats a ČD train, unlike Canopus. Anyway, another link to your solutions to all this jonworth.eu/if-you-wante...

Great interview! So glad you and they have found each other. Understandably they prioritise UK topics but they seem delighted by the response, so hopefully more from them on European practice, with your help!

I partly understand, no capacity, so 2-5 people per cabin maxes revenue, but will result in negative PR when people who wish to fly less try a sleeper for the first time and discover that "hotel on wheels" is PR hyperbole. BTW I own shares in European Sleeper!!

And here's a serious point: These two railways are not nostalgia symbols. The ZB is a serious working railway. And both of them are evidence that when people talk about a new "100 year railway" build, this is not just hyperbole. Here before us, and will be, long after we are gone./10 ends

And if the ZB is not enough, at Jenbach you can try the Achenseebahn, the rack railway which ascends the steep hill and takes you on a twirl round the south side of the lake. This is only a tourist thing now - but since "Georg" was built in 1886, respect is still due/9

However, see the image of the new blue trains on the building? The mayors of Zillertal are not happy with "Vienna". Those new trains have still not been ordered; originally to be hydrogen, now battery powered. As the mayors said, "we send €800m p.a. to Vienna". Poor show. /8
