Love this comment, could you expand on it? Having basketball on Christmas Day on tv for those who find the day difficult otherwise?
December 26, 2025 at 4:44 PM
Sure but what about the role of technology and young people reading less because of social media hours and screen time, that plays a role too
December 24, 2025 at 12:15 AM
What age were they? It’s possible if they’re a zoomer they would be unaware how a library works, because that generations reads less because of people like Taylor Lorenz forcing them be on their phones instead all day.

I remember you tweeting this before, someone older than me explained how it worked in the early 2000s when they were bored in the office.

They said their only choices were Bill Simmons on ESPN page 2 to read instead during quiet hours. Now there’s so much more choice for reading in those situations

It’s a gift article. If you click the link there’s no paywall.

Sadly, bluesky implemented the dumbest policy change ever of not showing which NYT links on their pics are “Gift Articles” the way the superior Twitter does.

Though this is acknowledged in your colleague’s piece too:

"The force of the cultural correction gave MAGA a momentum that the election results never justified. That created the conditions for overreach." - Ezra

Fair. Hopefully paramount give up by then, or somebody else buys CNN

Nothing will be worse than Australia’s main Conservative Party being called the “liberals”.
December 17, 2025 at 2:05 PM
Good news. I understand the problems with Netflix and the future of cinema, but this should prevent Paramount and the Ellison’s from taking over CNN.
December 16, 2025 at 9:11 PM
No, it isn’t. There’s a reason biological men are banned from women’s sports.
December 15, 2025 at 5:03 PM
Find it so telling when people who’ve never commented on Australian politics before in their life, now doing posts about “Anthony Albanese failed to make Australia safe for Jews”.

When this same attack could have happened under a right wing nationalist govt.
December 15, 2025 at 5:01 PM
Wow, “bigoted”. All because he thinks women’s sports should be for biological women?

How is that bigoted?

The problem here is none of you guys can imagine people sincerely caring about women’s sports! You guys see women’s sports as just “sports ball”.

This stuff matters and isn’t bigoted:

Investing in women’s soccer leagues, in women’s soccer international tournaments, breaking the records of fan attendances for games like Euro 2025 did last summer is the path forward.

Not arbitrarily just saying it should be a mixed sport. Women players want investment in their own sport.
December 11, 2025 at 2:18 PM
It makes perfect sense for a sport like soccer to be separated by gender!

There’s an obvious difference between women’s soccer and men’s soccer. And women deserve their own soccer leagues and tournaments. NWSL deserves more investment.

The women’s Euro’s last summer was a record breaking success!

My instant read of the story was that the “disability groups” who forced this change under Blinken likely aren’t actually representing the views of all disabled people here, or acting based on real academic evidence that disabled people find that font easier to actually read.

Every single person in the replies accusing Newsom of being anti-trans should be forced to read the excerpt below from a different substack.

The trans rights movement needs to focus on protecting trans people from discrimination, not on taking up unpopular causes like trans in women’s sports.

It’s not that deep. And dude, it’s because bluesky has a character limit, Twitter doesn’t.

So any long tweet literally can’t be posted onto bluesky directly, can only be screenshotted.

Oh yeah, agree 100%.

Though in the UK version, the Carney equivalent is more Wes Streeting than Starmer.

A moderate, but charisma and personal approval rating higher, while having more of a clear vision. Starmer’s big problem is the assumption most voters have that he has no vision/plan.
November 21, 2025 at 2:36 PM
It’s quite funny American leftists only ever focus on Starmer and the UK.

Meanwhile Canada and Australia have two moderate leaders, Carney and Albanese, who are both popular and both pulled off recent impressive election victories.

Classic bluesky smear job.

And because we live in an age of illiteracy, none of your followers will read the full column to find out you’re lying. Incredible.

Social media was a mistake.

@ezrakleinbot.bsky.social derangement syndrome can be cured simply by reading the rest of the column.

More centrist than left though works in some places, they did well in states that were trending towards Trump in 2024 and dominated one year later.

To win the Senate, we’re gonna need a few centrists in some redder states to win. While having Zohran types in places like New York

Big tent politics!
