In 2002, Roh Moo-hyun of Millenium Democratic Party won a narrow victory over Lee Hoi-chang of Hannnara Party. Winning swing province of Chungcheong was crucial for Roh's victory. Until 2022, it was the closest election ever seen in South Korean Presidential Elections.

Election during impeachment: In April 2025, by-election in the Seongnam 6th district of the Gyeonggi Assembly was held. Surprisingly, DPK candidate Kim Jin-myung won with 53.38%. This swing of 29.62% foreshadowed the result of 2025 Presidential Election two months later.

One notable feature of the 2025 South Korean presidential election was the significant gap between the Early Voting and Election Day Voting results. It is suspected that a widespread election fraud conspiracy theory among conservatives played a crucial role.

Having experienced massacre by military regime in 1980, Gwangju has supported Democrats since democratisation in 1987. When Kim Dae-jung, local son and the future Nobel Peace Prize laureate, ran in the 1997 presidential election, Gwangju delivered him an overwhelming victory with 97.28% of the vote.

2025 South Korean Presidential Election was notable for its large gap between Early Voting and Election Day Voting results. In Seoul, Lee Jae-myung won in all but three towns in EV. Conversely, Kim won all but two in EDV. Overall, Lee won the city by 5%, flipping it from 2022.

Following Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment for declaring illegal martial law, an election was held to choose new president. Lee Jae-myung, leader of the opposition party and survivor of last year's assassination attempt, handily won against PPP candidate Kim Moon-soo.

In June 2022, the Democratic Party of Korea was facing an uphill battle after narrow defeat in the presidential election three months earlier. Gyeonggi Province, the home province of former candidate Lee Jae-myung, was no exception. Yet, DPK managed to clinch a narrow victory.
