If you are heading to Hyalite this weekend to get a tree for Christmas, don't forget to purchase a tree permit before you go ($5/tree). This can be done at:

Join us Saturday, June 14th at 9 AM for Hyalite Stewardship Day cleaning up Langohr Rd. We’ll pick up trash along the road and at dispersed campgrounds - gloves and bags provided. Bring water and boots!

Road report for March 28, our last for the season. With the warm weather this week, the road up Hyalite is in excellent condition: bare pavement up to the reservoir and beyond with wet pavement in a few spots and some potholes. (1/2)

Road report for Mar. 28th: The road to the Hyalite reservoir is in great condition with bare pavement. In contrast the dirt road to Grotto is muddy with deeply rutted snow/ice. The gate at the entrance to Hyalite Canyon will close Monday evening March 31st and remain closed until May 16th. Enjoy!

Road report for March 21st: The road was plowed Wed. and is in great shape; much of the road is now bare pavement. The parking lots and some turnouts have been plowed but only limited parking at the reservoir. Vandals have taken the Pallet Fire Ban sign but a ban remains in force - NO PALLET FIRES!

March 14 road report 🚙 Despite the snow last night, Hyalite Canyon Road is mostly clear in the bottom half due to sunny skies and the warm afternoon. Be aware of changing conditions as you get higher, slush patches in the shade, and (1/2)

Road Report for March 14: Hyalite received several inches of wet snow on Thursday night. The road was plowed on Friday morning and road conditions range from wet, bare pavement to slippery, slush covered pavement to hard-packed snow and ice. Turnouts and parking lots were not plowed on Friday.

Road report for March 7: Variable conditions ⚠️

In the morning before it warms up the bottom third of the canyon has icy ruts. The ruts remain and are slushy by 1 p.m. Watch for falling rocks in this area. (1/2)

Hyalite Road report 2/28. Hyalite Canyon is largely bare, but shady stretches are still covered by rutted, packed snow and ice that can be slippery. One car slid off the road Friday when it encountered one of these stretches going too fast. The road to the Grotto Falls is packed snow and ice.

Road Report Feb. 21 🚗 The Hyalite Canyon road, turn outs and trailhead parking lots were plowed on Thursday and are in excellent condition with hard-packed snow in shade and patches of wet pavement in sun. Nordic trails have been groomed. Looks like a great weekend to head up to Hyalite. Enjoy!

On Friday, Feb. 14, an overwhelming portion of Custer Gallatin National Forest’s recreation staff were laid off as a result of ongoing efforts to reduce the federal workforce enacted by the Trump Administration. (1/?)
