This is the first F5/EF5-rated tornado in North Dakota in almost 70 years (last F5/EF5 tornado was the Fargo tornado on June 20, 1957)

Ever seen a “volnado” before?

Check out this video from USGS of a whirlwind kicking up loose ash deposits along the active fountain and flow within the Halemaʻumaʻu crater of Kilauea!

According to USGS, these whirlwinds have been documented during several eruptive episodes downwind of the eruption

The procurement of the next phased array radar (PAR) R&D instrument, a Rotating PAR that would provide 360° surveillance with vastly improved spatial/temporal resolution compared to the 88-D network, was cancelled
