🦑 Today is self-styled ‘The Day of the Platense Fan’.

The date was chosen for the birthday of fan Nico Landoni, who passed away —wearing his Platense shirt— in the Cromañón fire on 30.12.2004 where rock nacional band Callejeros were playing. 194 concert-goers lost their lives.

🇦🇷 Boca Juniors’ manager Miguel Ángel Russo has sadly passed away after a short illness. He was 69.

Russo played over 400 games for Estudiantes, earning 17 caps for Argentina. His managerial career saw him manage Boca on three occasions, winning the Libertadores in 2007.

RIP.

🇦🇷 Gustavo Benítez retired as a player in December after 9 years at Deportivo Riestra to become their manager. Riestra went to El Monumental last night, coming away with a 2-1 win against Marcelo Gallardo’s River Plate. Benítez was clearly overwhelmed by their huge victory! 🥹

Racing are in good form with four wins in a row (including progression to the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores!), whereas El Rojo haven’t won in 10.

🇦🇷 Gimnasia de La Plata’s new third kit is an homage to René Favaloro, the doctor who invented the heart bypass. Favaloro was from La Plata and a big fan of ‘El Tripero’. The ‘scrubs’ kit will be used tonight as Gimnasia host Rosario Central at El Bosque.

🌎 Copa Libertadores quarter-finals

Overnight Vélez Sarsfield went to Racing Club de Avellaneda looking to overturn a 1-0 home loss. In the 62nd minute Imanol Machuca thought he’d levelled the tie, only for VAR to correctly intervene. Racing went on to win 1-0 (2-0 agg)
