You know that this symbolic shortlist could easily be extended by dozens and dozens, if one were so inclined.

10. Trade favors with corrupt politicians. You take a personal meeting with a mayor under federal indictment for bribery and corruption. A few weeks later, your DOJ orders prosecutors to drop the charges. They instead resign en masse, alleging a corrupt quid pro quo.

9. Promote a foreign policy of ethnic cleansing. You announce your administration’s new plan for Middle East peace: A 21st-century Trail of Tears (forced relocation) for the people living in Gaza.

8. Enable unprecedented corruption and cronyism. You appoint a multi-billionaire, who runs multiple large companies, to a made-up position with vast, unchecked, unsupervised authority. Your press secretary assures the public that he will “monitor his own conflicts of interest.”

7. Carry out purges. You unlawfully fire over a dozen inspectors general (senior-level agency watchdogs for waste and fraud). You fire the head of the Office of Government Ethics. You fire career employees at DOJ and FBI for investigating and prosecuting your crimes.

6. Unlawfully seize powers reserved by the Constitution to Congress. You issue royal decrees (executive orders) to freeze or slash massive portions of spending appropriated by Congress. You dismantle entire federal agencies created by Congress.

5. Steal government secrets, lie about it. You steal dozens of boxes containing classified national-security documents. You lie to investigators and secretly move boxes to a bathroom to keep the government from finding them.

4. Encourage political violence. You send an angry mob to march on Congress. You sit on your hands for hours while they storm the Capitol and force lawmakers into a bunker. Later, you pardon the rioters, including ones who violently assaulted police.

3. Abuse your office, attempt election fraud. You call up a state election official, threaten him, and tell him he needs to somehow find just enough votes for you to win.

2. Withhold aid to extract personal political favors. You call up a foreign leader and corruptly suggest that he must investigate your political rival’s family before you’ll release military aid that’s required by law.
